About

Combining its own unique take on the real-time roguelike genre, with a nostalgic 16-bit look and feel, Diehard Dungeon is a game that feels both familiar and quite different at the same time.

Followed by a trusty, treasure collecting companion chest, you must make your way through the dungeons many randomly-generated rooms and levels. Armed with a sword and a ‘hand cannon’, all manner of nasty dungeon dwellers, bosses and traps will need to be defeated or traversed in order to emerge from the dungeon victorious!

To aid you in your quest, you may be lucky enough to encounter one or more upgrades or new abilities scattered throughout the dungeon, or bump into the remnants of other players (Champions) via the unlockable 'Champion Mode'. Champions wander atop the dungeon walls, ready to unleash their souls upon passers by. Be careful though, as not all Champions are helpful.

A randomly generated dungeon is created every playthrough, with many secrets and multiple outcomes.

The game features a dynamic difficulty and ranking system - the better you do, the more challenging the game will become. Only the most skilled dungeon escapees will attain the highest ranks.

Do you have what it takes to survive the dungeon?

Minigames
  • Mayhem: You have 3 minutes to get a high score by any means necessary. Mayhem is easy to learn, but difficult to master.
  • Survival: An endless series of progressively harder dungeon rooms. Avoid receiving damage and clear rooms within the time limit for bonuses.
  • Fading Light: Destroy 10 pyramids as quickly as possible, whilst avoiding the gaze of the searching eyes, and the hordes of bloodthirsty zombies.

Each minigame has a global leaderboard.

Diehard Dungeon reviews and comments

Diehard Dungeon is very good rogue-like in real time. It kinda makes me think of risk of rain, but in view of it, and with the platform side in months. In fact, it looks like a cross between risk of rain and the legend of Zelda, but with the ambiance of a Castlevania. Diehard Dungeon is a rogue-like, your progression in the dungeons, the bonuses you have AMED, the keys of golds, the treasures, the level of your trunk-companion, are reset to each "run" (single part). Only tokens (used to "buy" bonuses) and your XP (which determines your rank) will be kept between the parties (even if you have to know that with each defeat, your XP/rank decreases so that the difficulty adapts to your level). The gameplay is rather simple: we enter a room, we kill all the monsters, and we open the door of the, either by activating slabs and/or other mechanisms, or by killing all the monsters (it depends on the room), and we move to the next room , and so on. After a few rooms, you will fall on a first boss. Then, after beating him and doing other rooms, on a second, etc. To kill the monsters, you have a sword and a rifle that shoot cannon balls. You are also accompanied by a trunk that serves as a companion, and picks up all the little coins/treasures you will find. This chest that follows you evolves when you pick up these coins, and it may even end up attacking the monsters with you! As in risk of rain, you will find power-ups, obtained among other things by opening chests, or by sacrificing "tokens" on specific locations. These power-ups allow you to shoot three cannons instead of one, to have napalm cannon balls, to have special skills (such as hiding in your trunk to go incognito, slowing down time, etc.), to increase your number of lives Maxium, etc. You will be more and more powerful as you progress, which is very useful as the enemies themselves become more and more powerful. With your run, you will also find gold keys. The gold keys allow you to finish your run, but for that it will have to have picked up 10. The gold keys are scattered all over your run, and as a rule you will have already done a number of rooms, and beaten a few bosses before having the 10 Golden keys needed to complete the run. Once you have 10 gold keys in your possession, you will be released, provided you do not die before! Diehard Dungeon is a very good rogue-like, perfect for a few small quick parts. The lifespan and replayability are good for my liking. And in addition to the normal mode, the game also has mini-games (mayhem and survival for now, but a third is coming). Despite its qualities, play can be frustrating at times, with a small share of luck. But what rogue-like is not a bit? In short, a great game, which I highly recommend to lovers of rogue-like!
