Story
May 1, 1945- Germany. On the eve of Berlin's collapse, a group of men and women carried out a certain ritual. To them, suffering defeat in the war meant nothing. If anything, the countless lives lost in the battle served as a catalyst to their sacrificial ceremony. Whether or not their attempt bore fruit ― not a soul knows. Following the war, they faded from sight, mind, and eventually into the realm of myth.
・・・・・・・・・・・・
61 years later ― Japan, 2006.
Ren Fujii, a young man attending high school in Suwahara City, finds his friendship with his old buddy Shirou Yusa shatter to pieces following a certain incident, ending in a vicious fight that sees Ren hospitalized for two months.
The season shifts from autumn to winter ― to the dawning weeks of December, with Christmas on the horizon. Having lost his best friend, Ren leaves the hospital with the intention to rebuild his new life without Shirou.
But even that plan soon falls apart. Irrationality that defies the realm of common sense begins to assault and devour the city. Abnormalities soon seek to destroy everything Ren holds dear before his eyes with overwhelming violence.
He must change, even if it means crossing the boundary between the ordinary and the extraordinary. His desires are hardly anything grand. All he wants is to return to those days of old. Back to those days filled with simple, everyday joy.
The battle with the Longinus Dreizehn Orden. A continuation of that war full of madness, carnage, and maledictions. What future awaits Ren at the end of his road...?

This game immediately when you start plunges you into military action.
All the pictures that are shown-are in the background-it is a little frustrating...
So, in itself, the text goes on top of the images and is accompanied by all the explosions.
The Game rides a solid text with voiced dialogues-so it's more like a book than a regular novella!

What to think of this VN?
not great...
the music is too strong and hides the dialogues in part...
the blabla is long and monotonous the text covers the 75% of the screen...
text, text, text! (and in English...) to the point that in the end we do not even try to read what is written and we just listen to the Japanese dubbing and what can be heard from his last.

An excellent VN (Visual novel). Some have written a lot about it pretty synthetic way.
The game is made to play in a certain order to respect the rise of the plot.
I put a link here to a walkthrough, maybe the only one in anlgais, I think.
https://gareblogs.wordpress.com/2017/06/01/dies-irae-amantes-amentes-english-walkthrough/the author of the blog also wrote an interesting review available on his website.
In a few words: it is when you come to the very end of the game that you realize how finely chiseled the dialogues and interractions between the characters. This VN is a bit the staging of a shonen in the form of Opera grandiloquent.... with recaling characters. I explain, the characters are very charismatic, especially Reinhardt necessarily, but not that. The story seems simple. A fellow, high school boy finds himself caught in a battle royal between Knights of a Nazi order while he just wanted to live quietly...
Except that it's more complicated than that, that everyone has his motivations, his weaknesses, and his history. But during the long hours of play (50) spent on this title, the mystery thickens. Do not be fooled by the first two roads (Kasumi and key), they are interesting and charming but do not quite do justice to dies Irae. A bit like a Muv-Luv, you have to go through the first chapters to enjoy the end. It is really on the third road that we begin to understand the substance of the thing, until the apoeosis of the road of Rhea, and in particular its final scene. It's beautiful, it's fun, think of the fate stay night married to Hellsing with a form of General Intelligence on the structure of the VN that makes the subject almost literary, without being heavy.
In short, I played a lot of the VN, that is one of the best. Respect the order of the story (see walkthough above) and your experience should be very satisfying. Sometimes there are a few lengths but don't get discouraged, it's worth it. And when you're done you'll have this little nostalgic of the truly endeating universes.
