The best shmup appeared in the last 5 years?! This may be excessive in the eyes of some but it is in any case the title that will have me the most hung among the whole wave of Jap shmups went out at the time on the XBOX 360. Actually I first knew Eschatos in its original version on console, a game that I know so very well to have it in addition 1CC (in original normal at least!). If at the beginning graphically one is rather surprised by the minimalism of its graphics, one understands quickly that this defect appearing and in truth a force of the game both the legibility is perfect in addition to confer a special and unique aura! The music puts the mood and is very catchy (sweep record inside!) but what makes this game absolutely awesome, catchy and extremely addictive is the way it was built!
The game is built in wave that enchaine without dead time from start to finish, served by a good dynamic staging, the difficulty is extremely well calibrated whatever the mode of games (and the difficulty on 4 degrees) and the waves (placement and number of enemies , variety of traps etc.) are also extremely well calibrated. The great strength of Eschatos is clearly its level and game design, its playability and its deliciously arcade atmosphere tinted of retro while being unique.
