Fantasy Train Wars
About
Fantasy Train Wars is a 2 player local multiplayer fighting game that pits the players in a square like map divided by an impassable straight section. This impassable section is like a train system that stores different characters, buffs, and a portal (think like a sushi train). Each player can use the grab ability to obtain these items . These items causes special effects (further described in the Grab Ability section).
The initial inspiration for this game was from a Warcraft 3 mod called "Pudge Wars". However, it has changed throughout development and turned into quite a different game.
Controls:Player 1: WASD to move, G for basic attack, H for hold attack, J for the grab ability
Player 2: Arrow keys to move, Num1 for basic attack, Num2 for hold attack, Num3 for the grab ability
Gameplay Mechanics: Grab AbilityEach player can use the grab ability, the J key for player 1 and Num3 for player 2. When this ability collides with an object in the middle section, it will cause an effect depending on what it collided with.
- Character - transform into that character
- Buff - gain a temporary combat boost
- Portal - spawn a portal on your side and the enemy side that ports you to the opposite side of the portal
The middle section will continuously spawn these items from throughout the game. The spawn rotation is:
Random Character > Random Buff > Portal (guaranteed spawn)
CharactersThere are a total of 8 characters in the game that is further divided into 3 different factions.
A faction is strong against another faction but also weak against the other. Each faction deals double damage to the faction it is strong against and deals half damage to the faction it is weak against.

Furthermore, each character also possess different movement stat, damage stat, and attack range/coverage. Balancing is most likely whack though 😬
Humans Monsters MachinesChoosing the right character to counter the enemy player is key in winning matches.
BuffsThere are 2 buffs in the game which are:
- Damage Buff - temporarily doubles your damage
- Movement Speed Buff - temporarily doubles your movement speed
Colliding with portals allow you to move to the opposite side of the map mainly to engage in combat against the opposing player or escape from them. Portals disappear after some time.
Remember that portals are guaranteed to spawn every 3rd spawn from the middle section.
PotionsFinally, there are 3 potions on each side of the map. Any player can take these potions to restore a portion of health.
Note that these can only be taken by colliding with it.
