What is A Place in the West?Half-Life: A Place in the West is a fan-made comic book set within Valve's acclaimed Half-Life universe, in which Earth has fallen under the grip of the totalitarian Combine empire following a scientific experiment gone very wrong.

As a group of military commandos sweep across the American wasteland kidnapping children, a troubled father, an intrepid young scientist, and an ancient alien warrior are drawn to the strange city from which the attackers sprung: New Franklin. Once inside, they discover a powerful secret, but the city holds many dangers, and deceptive temptations. Faced with warring clans, diabolical experiments, a treacherous conspiracy, and the growing shadow of the Combine, they must unlock New Franklin’s mysteries before it’s too late - and the lives of everyone in the city hang in the balance.

A Place in the West delivers a compelling story, and a complex and intriguing cast of all-new characters, drawing on the rich mythology of the Half-Life universe in an entirely new medium for the series.

The comic will run for a total of thirteen chapters, the first of which, Following Portents, is available for free to download and comes to a total of 38 pages. The remaining chapters will be released sequentially as paid-DLC, and will vary between 25-30 pages in length.

Do I need to be Familiar with Half-Life?Nope! The first chapter features a three-page prologue designed to bring new readers up to speed with the world of Half-Life. A Place in the West is also set in the interim between Half-Life and Half-Life 2, which means that you needn't be familiar with Valve's later games anyway. That isn't to say, however, that you won't find exciting things to enjoy if you are familiar with the series.

What Other Features Are There? The comic is displayed and presented in an app designed by ourselves for the best possible reading experience. Through a fully-animated menu screen, derived in style from the menus of Half-Life 2, you can quickly and easily navigate between the comic pages and chapters, adjusting zoom & language options, the credits, and the extras section. The extras section will be continuously updated over the course of the comic's production, and will include a series of three-to-five-page comic 'shorts' that further develop the world of New Franklin and its occupants, as well as "Behind the Scenes" commentary videos for each central chapter!

Half-Life: A Place in the West reviews and comments

Another good fanfic on CL, served in the form of a graphic comic book with a decorated interesting menu as in the originals of games on the Universe CL, while the authors are not lazy to make clogged achievements in the reading! And This is only the first part, I would like to wish the authors good luck with the further part of the story and will closely monitor the progress. Judging by the interview, as long as the authors do not intend to localize the art to Russian, but the translation as such is already there. Wishing to read Half-Life: A Place in the West on Russian, can find it here: http://www.hl-inside.ru/gallery/place-in-the-west/

Half-Life: A Place in the West is not really a game, it's a comic book. This can be shocking at first sight since we are not accustomed; (or at least, I'm not), to see Comics on Steam. It Is made by a group of fans of the Half-Life saga; And although it does not belong to this saga, the comic plot is set in the world of Half-Life. The events shown in the comic are located at the time after the Gerra of the 7 Hours, between the events of the Half-Life and Half-Life 2. At the moment only the first of the 6 chapters that they plan to launch are available. It is Worth noting that it is not in Spanish, but only in English and Russian. I have read it in English and I consider that any with a medium-high level of English should not have any problem to find out the plot. To finish I would like to emphasize that they will add achievements (that is, you will achieve achievements only by reading).

It is worth to Start with the fact that this is a really interesting comic book on the Half-Life universe. I Do not know how it is with the Russian, but when reading in the original completely immersed in this naïve and yet exciting story. Intriguing tie, colorful characters, unusual for the series place. So I counted a few days ago, until it came out DLC for 59 rubles... The fact is that only the first part is available for free, only the tie. The Second part was added for too long: first the Achki, which can not be obtained, then promises that from the category of "Tomorrow will come, wait a bit." And here it came... For 59 rubles came out. The Price is small, but the fact of paid distribution-spitting in the face of all users. Developers from the very beginning promised free access to the continuation of the story, said that create a project from the heart, but it came out differently. You Can cite many examples of comics, which are made from the soul, one page a week (kill six billion demons, Universe!, Polar, etc.), and their authors ask only Donat, which, believe me, comes almost daily. And Yes, many of these comics are bought by large publishers and printed on paper. Is This not a success? The Developers of A Place in the West decided not to. Well, this is their choice, but given the fact of this deception, and the halal Acachivok, because of which many have downloaded the project last year, I think the interest in the comic will be lost in the near future, and the Bottom of the steam will be replenished by another open-cut project.
