Elliot returns to House Hemels on doctor's orders: visiting her old place once more will help her put her bad dreams behind her once and for all. 
As she pieces together more of her memories she gains more control over her body, but loses her sanity.  Maybe the doctor was not familiar with the popular wisdom "Ignorance is bliss".
