Homeworld reviews and comments

DISCLAIMER: I played the remastered version of this game, which I know has differences. However, I felt it was similar enough to review. The RTS gameplay, is simply phenomenal and very in-depth, way beyond anything that was around at the time. Each unit had a distinct purpose and use, there was nothing thrown in as "filler". Ship designs are awesome, and so are the surroundings. My one big pet peev with this game, and I believe this would be true of the original as well, is that I felt the plot was just sort of thrown in. The way they set it up and explained it was extremely lackluster and had me confused multiple times as to what the heck was going on and who was who and why they were important. It definitely should have been fleshed out more. The gameplay more than makes up for that though. Definitely would recommend to any RTS fan.

Homeworld is a game that's more than the sum of its parts—and its parts are already amazing. Somehow the stilted, cold presentation is still charming and intellectually stimulating. The complex, somewhat clumsy gameplay is compelling and thoughtful. The too-chill sound design and music help transport your thoughts and emotions to someplace unique.

This game has that revolutionary spark that makes games feel magical to play, even after you're jaded.

A Masterpiece.

When it came out all these years ago, it blew people's minds with beautiful graphics and great storytelling, not to mention the manual that was a piece of great scifi read. The game's narrative, sound design and music made the experience unforgettable.
