Summary: + Deep foundations, serious Topic + Rain To Think about +/-Düster Style +/-Derbe language-Very short Playing time (1 Hour)-Little "Game" in the real Sense, but also few Dialogues and Settings to make up for the-Unappealing Character drawings-All Characters "set to music" by adult Men, which disturbs immersion-Full Potentials of the Subject long since untapped Plot: Lydia is a short Story adventure that deals in a narrative way with Themes such as Neglect and psychological Violence against a growing up, young Person.
Graphics & Sound: The Graphic Style is intentionally very gloomy.
The sparse locations are stylistically quite fine, but the drawn Characters cannot, with the best Will, be described as artistically valuable, even if I suspect there is some Intention behind it.
In any case, the Drawings have absolutely not promised me to me-and even if Graphics are not the most Important thing about a game for a Long time, the Eye plays a part.
I also found the Sound effects ("Voices" of the Characters) extremely annoying and not conducive to the Basic Mood of the Game. You could have put a lot more Effort into it or just omit it them completely.
Gameplay: The playful Passages are very brief. One steers Lydia, the story'S young Protagonist, through a randomy-seeming string of short Life Events that mix in Part with the gritty fantasy of a young girl withdrawn from Reality.
There is little to discover and equally few Dialogues (which, however, sometimes contain very rough Language).
Personal Conclusion: I bought the Game because I am very interested in psychological issues and especially everything that has to do with Children is always very close to my Heart.
And while I can't say that this Game is bad in principle, I can't recommend it, because I don't think that even in the Approach, the full Potential of the Subject has been exhausted.
Lydia left me somewhat affected, but not as much as the Subject could have done. The little Protagonist just didn't grow close to my Heart in the Hour I played her.
I know that many of the Things I am criticising here have been made as a deliberate Decision To design, but that does not change the fact that they have missed my Target.
And also, if I think that small developer teams should be supported, I just want to be honest as a matter of principle: In the End, I can't claim that Lydia was worth its Purchase Price for me, even though I have Advantages for the Topic and the Courage to address this Topic. To cut narratively, must forgive.
