About

Neon Shift is a speedrunning platformer featuring 24 official levels and a community level editor/browser. In Neon Shift, levels play out across two distinct phases - the run and the chase. To submit their times to the leaderboard, players must successfully complete both phases back to back.

The Run

Neon Shift's gameplay is heavily focused on maintaining momentum, so precise platforming is required to avoid mistakes that will kill the runner's speed and increase completion time. Sliding down ramps provides a burst of speed, so players aiming for a top spot on the leaderboard should seek them out.

Some levels present multiple paths for players to experiment with and determine their fastest route.

Later levels feature spikes and speed boosts, among other tiles - be on the lookout for anything that could impact your run!

The Chase

Upon reaching the end of a run, the player's time is locked in and they switch into the Phantom. They must now catch the ghost of the run they just completed.

The Phantom has some advantages that support the player in catching their ghost, as long as they are able to maintain momentum. While it begins at the same pace as the ghost, the Phantom's maximum speed gradually increases throughout the chase, and it has access to a recharging dash that can be used to cover extra ground.

The dash can also be used to pass through red blocks, and doing so refreshes its cooldown, allowing the player to chain multiple dashes together or unlock previously inaccessible routes.

If the player successfully catches their run as the Phantom, their time will be submitted to the leaderboard.

Each official level also features a three star system that rewards players for beating a challenge time while grabbing collectibles along the way.

Community Level Editor

Neon Shift's level editor puts all of the tools used to build the official levels directly into the players' hands! Build, test and upload your own creations for others to enjoy.

Using the Community Levels tab, players can browse, play and rate levels made by others. As with official levels, all community levels have their own leaderboards, so players can still compete for the top spots.
