Overdungeon reviews

Early access review Overdungeon is a Roguelike inspired by "slay the Spire", but in real time. Above all, it is very "manga", the goal being to get abused combos (but necessary to overcome the higher difficulties) based on multiplication of creatures or direct magic. It's an early access and it shows, especially on the balancing side. For now it is a little too easy. In addition the Japanese-English translation is not optimal, some maps remain mysterious fault to a rough description. Some sound effects are quite painful (Hello the elephant). Nevertheless, this title has potential. Already because each character has a personal deck, to which two other decks are mixed. For now there is no choice but 3 decks, but it is already a good point for diversity. The fact that this card game is in "real time" is a little surprising at first, especially when you don't know the cards. If we hang too much before we play, the enemy will attack us. But as soon as you get used to the cards, it becomes natural and enjoyable. For the moment each part is fast enough: between 20 and 40min for a complete and victorious run.

Early access review OVERDUNGEON... ARF, we're entering a strange concept. I can't say, "you're going to love it.", "you're going to hate it." We're so in another world. This game is based on the principle of Dungeon crawling, at each level an event is triggered whether it is a fight and its rewards, a reward found at random, or the good old Campfire to rest (or improve a card of choice among those available in your deck). So far it's all right, we're in the classic. That stops there. Here we are in a game that offers dynamic fights and does not ask you to do in the lace: when elsewhere you are happy to add 3 points of attack on a map that makes 20, here we mount his deck to have almost exponential effects. I give you an example: a card allows me to double the next two invocations of animals, another allows me to invoke 20 chicks, another gives me the right to summon a dog beside all the animals on an area. I play the three cards in a row. so 2 * 20 chickens = 40 then a dog for each chicken so 40 dogs and 40 chickens, but the dog's invocation is also doubled, so 40 more dogs for my 40 chickens and 40 more dogs for my 40 dogs appeared next to my chickens... So I created 160 units in 3 cards. And the whole game works on this principle of combining map sequences to trigger a cascade effect. So some will say: it's too nag patati patata, others like me will love this form of synergy maps allowing monstrous effects if the deck is well built. The game is still developing, and I cry every time I arrive at the end of the Dungeon which is very short for now. I promise to come back and inform you as soon as the game is longer. Is this game worth buying? I think so, if it can financially help this small team to continue their work and finish polishing us this rough diamond (before we put it in a Crown worthy of an emperor). Every day we have more cards, the preparation of a 3rd character is in progress, the bugs are corrected as and when. For my part, I feel so good this game that I will offer them to do the French translation for free if they agree to insert the language of Molière in the options. There is a new wind on the genre, and this wind is called Overdungeon.
