About

Painkiller Overdose is a first-person shooter, the first stand-alone expansion for 2004 People Can Fly game Painkiller.

Plot

Unlike the original game, the main protagonist in Overdose is not Daniel Garner, but half-angel, half-demon Belial who seeks revenge for his imprisonment and rejection by both hell and heaven.

Gameplay

The gameplay is very similar to that of the original game. The game is divided into sixteen levels.
The player must get through each of them slaying hordes of enemies. Most of the levels consist of the arena-like room where you have to defeat waves of monsters to progress. Some levels end up with battles against huge Bosses that require player shoot specific parts of their bodies. The game takes place in different areas of purgatory. Some of them resemble specific historical settings like ancient Rome, ancient Egypt or medieval Japan. Completing specific tasks awards player with tarot-cards that give Belial special powers.
The Belial’s weaponry is different from that of Daniel through most of the weapons are similar in mechanics to their counterparts from the original game. Every weapon has at least two firing modes. For example, Bonegun can act like a typical shotgun or turn enemies into stone; razor cube can rotate metal projectiles at high speed, draw enemies to Belial or slowly shoot metal projectiles.

    Painkiller Overdose reviews and comments

    Translated by
    Microsoft from Russian
Bloody riot is coming back! Disputes about what is better Painkiller + addon Battle out of Hell or Painkiller Overdose were actively conducted at the time of the second supplement. I think that preference will be given to the product from which began acquaintance with the series. Plot. The Plot tells us about the mighty half-angel-the midday Squirrel, who, because of his phenomenal power, imprisoned Lucifer in a cage from which it is impossible to escape. This lasted for thousands of years until Daniel Garner, the protagonist of the last part, did not slay the lord of Hell. Finally, Belial is free and he wants revenge. The Plot is presented to us in the form of cinematic commercials. The Quality of the rollers is much lower than the previous part-almost all of the cinematics we observe the book, which slowly flips its pages. There are small, second video stakes with the main character, but again-there are very few of them. The plot Itself, as you can understand, is weak, but it is not scary, because it serves us only to get into the course of business. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1232506416 Graphics. Slightly adjusted PKEngine engine. There are no Special differences. Of Course, the shortcomings of the graphic component can be keep an eye at the level of "Ghostly Valley", but the developers skillfully pull out of the engine maximum and everything else looks nice and wrangling does not cause. Designers came to work with diligence-we have sad famous Pompeii, devilish cold Scandinavian mountains, very depressing trenches of the First World War and the city in which there is a massacre of anarchists with the defenders of law and order, unfortunately, the levels are not Tied to a certain act and some sort of a jammed sequence we have. As for opponents, here we have, as well as old acquaintances on the previous part, and new: Punks, Ognemetchiki, the divided human carcass, etc. Great job. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1232506485 Gameplay. All specificity of Painkiller consists in its continuous, Kryshesnosjashhem action. Overdose is played differently. All the blame music and matched opponents to the level. I will Not conceal-the game is quite difficult and the novice will be extremely difficult to pass it on the last difficulties. First aid Kits and armor developers placed extremely reluctant, which, in the end, forces the player to move "at the second speed" or hide and shoot because of shelters. Weapons have become stronger and weapons have become more. The Fact that we have increased firepower power can be seen by how easily fly away enemies from the original. The same situation does not pass with new opponents-they are much firmer, stronger, more furious. The fact that weapons become no longer means that the player will want to wield absolutely all ammunition. If the player is given some ultimate weapon, the person will use it in 90% of cases. Mindware it perfectly understand and, as a result, equally placed all on level. If a person often misses, the level will have to finish with the weapon that he put in a long box. But it does not spoil the general mood, but on the contrary, allows the player on the move to change their style of play and adjust to the situation. Painkiller was famous for its absurd secrets, where the player had to use all his experience in the jump, non-standard thinking and resourcefulness. In the same part of the secrets are placed very simple, and in some levels they are not at all. Very, very sorry. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1232506547 Music. Jan Dušek put his efforts To this part. I can say With full confidence that he's got an ambient. What only is music from the "Ghostly Valley" or "Desert". But The fighting music is completely not suitable for style. As I outlined above, one of the main pillars of the cult of Painkiller-it's his driving soundtrack, which sets the rhythm. Here we have a moderate, slightly aggressive ambient, which plays against the background and does not cling. It is Very difficult to remember what track is playing now. So What can you say about Painkiller Overdose? Very successful combination of complexity and action, but, unfortunately, not as insane as in the previous part. But Why imitate a successful brother, when you can take a chance and try to stand out and bring in a series of new trends. The Experiment was successful and, as it turns out in the future, will remain in the hearts of fans as the last unique part of its kind. Maybe it will remain so before the release of Painkiller H&D, but here from which side to look.
