Phoenix Rises

• The sleeping phoenix must be woken.
• Target its core with energy blasts.
• Guardians feed off your energy.
• They will use it and your fire against you to neutralise the core.
• Avoid contact with them at all costs.
• Raise the core to 100% and raise the phoenix *.

Keys:

• Left / right arrows - move
• Z - shoot

This shoot 'em up created in Pico-8 turns that traditional idea of the genre upside down, and you will only win by shooting the core, but not enemies. There is no lose state and it can only be ended once the core reaches 100%.

* Yes, I know it looks more like a budgerigar than a phoenix.
