What is it?

Privacy Protectors is an action-sim game about protecting your privacy from scammers. 

Players take on the role of a run-of-the-mill office worker who goes to work every day and enjoys their leisure time in the evening by streaming some TV or reading the news. But when it comes to clearing their inbox, this person has decided to help the latest scam email detection software by identifying the scam emails they get to improve the filter capabilities for all users.

Learning Through Games

Privacy Protectors is an educational game that teaches players about scam emails and protecting their privacy through play. Learning games are an often misunderstood (and misused) resource for educators, non-for-profits, charities or anyone with a message they're having trouble explaining to their audience.

Learning games have incredible potential to help engage previously ambivalent or tough to reach groups to engage them through play. University of Rochester neuroscientists C. Shawn Green and Daphne Bavelier state in their research that "Video games are not the enemy, but the best opportunity we have to engage our kids in real learning."

We partnered with Media Smarts, a Canadian non-profit organization based in Ottawa, Ontario that focuses on media literacy programs. Media Smarts wanted to help teach people about safety online and we partnered with them to teach.
