Proto Raider reviews and comments

Translated by
Microsoft from Russian
The Proto-period of the gambling system, which today can be compared with the deep Proterozojskoj antiquity, is unlikely to present any interest to the modern gamer, except the historical one. It is likely that a few decades ago, when this era of gambling was relevant, many have not yet appeared. But, as Proto Raider shows, the textual graphics, typical of the "bagels" of the 80-90, can be relevant even in 2015, and the tearful nostalgic notes here absolutely nothing.        So-called ASCII-pseudo-graphics, which allows you to easily illustrate any level of the game, even in Windows Notepad, met mainly in "bagels" and text quests, among which you can select, for example, directly Rogue (1980), Eamon (1980), Moria (1983), NetHack (1987), later Angband (1990) Ancient Domains of Mystery (1994) and even relatively recent (2006) Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup together with Dwarf Fortress. Proto Raider is neither a "rogalkom", nor a textual quest (although graphically stylized as a representative of the genre)-it is rather platformer with the element runner, where the speed of your step/run depends on the chosen difficulty of the game. Funny graphics, which is one of the main distinguishing features of Proto Raider, in fact do not need in all aspects to compare with the above games, where the text format is due to purely technical costs, and indeed is a bird's-eye view. Graphics Proto Raider (which, by the way, there are several options) even now looks very stylish and unusual, and the game objects-extremely amusing.        It is Extremely amusing and that the protagonist Proto Raider desperately Zigguret and, apparently, not so much greets the player, how much cheering himself before the start of each level. And This is not surprising, because the little man, consisting of only 5 characters, will be again and again to die in an attempt to overcome a variety of obstacles: fiery lava, Stormy waterfalls, rockfalls, devastating tornadoes, Tropical swamps in the jungle and other charms of nature, behind which are hidden ingenious bosses, reminiscent of people, then animals, then in general some forest monsters-mutants. And we must admit that the location, despite the simple text graphics, look in some sense picturesque! Unfortunately, after each successful passage of the local flora and fauna scattered on single symbols, as a house of Cards, but, among other things, on some levels of Proto Raider you can shoot from the crossbow, become a "Kopatelem", Ride a boat and Even meet the princess (not the most decent, I must say), but only if you collect enough treasures, which, like this surprise, here are marked with a dollar icon.        Management in Proto Raider depends on only one button, but to name the gameplay one-button does not work. However, the scale of the game is still not enough:-the Number of levels could be more, and their complexity-higher. + Funny text graphics; + Interesting and varied puzzles; + Surprisingly nice music; + There is a Russian language (although without it everything is understandable).        Proto Raider, unlike its predecessors, does not look old-fashioned and, it is possible to say, develops text "proto-graphics" as a stylistic feature. Yes, indie developers now often prefer the oldest pixel art, but Proto Raider has proved that the ASCII format can still be stylish. To become in addition to this fashionable and youth, is not enough only cards and achievements, which now, unfortunately, are almost the main argument when buying games. 7.5/10. Protogeming is still relevant!
