It is not clear what transpired at the Battle of Taramanjyo last fall, but it is known the shogun's armies were forced to retreat, taking heavy losses from a horrible oni wielding a cursed blade.
Now, that oni rules Taramanjyo. Monsters and demons roam the grounds freely, making sport of the few surviving innocents. Those people not already slaughtered are forced to labor, rebuilding sections of the castle according to some strange purpose known only to the oni himself.
You, a demon hunter in the shogun's employ, have bravely volunteered to kill the oni and find a way to seal the power of the cursed blade. In return, you and your descendants stand to inherit the former holdings of the Kashizawa family-- and the shogun's personal gratitude.
