INTRO

Have you ever played a game where you recruit dozens of characters but are only allowed to use... 4 or 5 of them?  What a waste!

The Battle for Holdfast Gate is a Gacha Roguelite where you can summon over 60 characters, organize your forces, get to know them, and command them to smash hundreds of enemies all while listening to beautiful music!  

ORIGIN

I've always loved the Gacha genre for the anime art, the cool characters, leveling up, and playing whenever I wanted on my phone.  I've always HATED the Gacha genre for the lack of being able to use all your characters, the way they have annoying timer/stamina limits, premium currency, and of course IAPs.  

So, how about a Gacha Roguelite with no IAPs where you can use lots of characters at once?  Create your team, fight through battles, and then do it all over again but with new characters, new enemies, and new strategies!  And since there are no IAPs, you haven't "lost" anything by starting a new game!

Runs best at 1920x1080, and the demo is currently available for Windows and Android.

GAMEPLAY

The general gameplay loop is:

  1. Summon Characters with Gate Keys
  2. Arrange/Equip Characters
  3. Spend loot to increase Stats and Potions
  4. Explore Map, fighting battles to gain loot and Gate Keys
    1. Normal battles to explore the map
    2. Major battles (caves, temples, etc.) that have a Boss and greater rewards
    3. Gate Battles to shut enemy Gate, win rewards, and progress the story 
  5. When wiped out or when the player wants to fully heal, return to Holdfast - no "Game Over", you are always making progress

The map is dynamically generated with each game, and there are currently 4 Terrain types (Plains, Sea, Tundra, and Desert).  Each map has 6 Gates, and the objective is to close them all.  Eventually, this will allow you to go on to the next chapter but in the current version there is no change after you close all the Gates. 

Gate battles are special events where you split your party into 2 forces: your Offense team and your Defense team.  The Offense team has to fight through waves of enemies to close the enemy Gate, while the Defense team has to defend your own Gate against endless waves of enemies.  


The save system is new with this build.  The game autosaves after each battle and visit to Holdfast.  You can pick up where you left off within seconds of opening the game!

The story is minimal at the moment, that's one of the next big things to tackle.

This is a Demo, and the game is still a work in progress.  Please pardon any bugs and rough edges!
