The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim reviews

What a universe.

After playing this game on my Xbox One in 2017 - or something like that, I had to give it another try, since I rushed it a little bit to move to another game asap, leaving those amazing sidequests untouched. Said and done. I played some questlines, like the College of Winterhold. Also, I completed two DLCs. Only after that, I completed the main story. And I have to say... I miss that kind of feeling in modern gaming.

At Skyrim, you have freedom. You can be whatever you want, choose your quests, dive deep into the lore and that universe slowly becomes more and more real. The characters were amazing equally.

The only thing Skyrim is arguably bad about is the gameplay. Yes, you have a lot of choices, but it`s not fluid as should be. But I`m confident that the next game will fix this.

One more thing: I believe the visuals of this game are criminally underrated. In 4k, on a good tv, it looks truly amazing.

Sep 18, 2022, played in Master difficulty mostly.

I mean, it's Skyrim - so engrossing, so addictive, so janky. Glad I actually managed to complete the game this time around, and I really enjoyed the additional challenge and complexity of playing as a mage - although admittedly I had to depend more on weapons in the endgame and there's definitely some balancing issues. The combat system as a whole wasn't great when it was released and is certainly showing its age now. I enjoyed completing a lot of the Guild questlines for the first time as well - the most enjoyable of these was probably the Dark Brotherhood questline, and the least enjoyable/interesting was The Mages Guild.

A good time sink, completely inferior to it's predecessors
«Skyrim» - is one of those games where you constantly discover something new, even after hundreds of hours of gameplay. It immerses you in an ancient fantasy world filled with mysteries, secrets, and endless opportunities for exploration.

Mysteries and Secrets:
«Skyrim» combines an open world with deep exploration elements. Players will discover ancient «Dwemer» ruins with intricate mechanisms, barrows, forts with hidden traps, and challenging puzzles. Many dungeons conceal stories of the past, which can be uncovered by studying notes and artifacts.

Atmosphere:
A harsh northern land, yet beautiful and enchanting. Cold landscapes, snow-covered mountains, dense forests, and hot springs create the feeling of a truly living world. Rain taps on rooftops, wind howls through canyons, and the night sky is adorned with magical northern lights.

Nordic Design:
Visual style of the game is inspired by «Scandinavian» motifs. The «Nords» architecture is rugged yet majestic, featuring massive stone fortresses and wooden longhouses with intricate carvings.

Politics and Guilds:
«Skyrim» offers more than just battles and exploration—it also features a deep political system. The war between the «Stormcloaks» and «Imperial Legion» allows players to take sides and influence the fate of the province. Guilds provide different character development paths. You can play a specific role, follow a set behavior pattern, or help one character only to rob another 30 minutes later. A thief, a warrior, or a mage is your path and your choice. And nothing stops you from combining all skills.

Conclusion:
This is a game you can keep returning to, constantly discovering new details, quests, and stories. Freedom of choice makes every playthrough unique.
