You’re a simple mailman living in the nearly post apocalyptic Great Basin Desert that has been consumed by the imploding of the Earth’s core. It’s now the Neu Core, and information between the surface, the stars, and the layers of the Earth is the most vital thing one can have. And you’re the only one who has it. 

The Emperor, coming to power after the shifting allegiance of a planet missing an inner core, has gone radio silent on the planet Jupiter, and all your correspondence has been shut off.
