Way of Gold and Steel
About
What is in the "Way of Gold and Steel" which makes it interesting?
Main reason is the unusual gameplay style — combination of a real-time strategy (RTS) and a roguelike. As you know, in a typical RTS you issue global orders — basically what should be built and how to advance through the technology trees. It is different here. You control your character like you normally would do in a roguelike. Also you issue orders to your followers verbally, participate in fights, you have inventory and equipment. As a result we've got a mix of genres: real-time strategy and a dungeon crawler, two in one.

Very good game Despite its poor GFX, the game is very captivating, the exploration works great on me and like other roguelikes, the self-confidence is fatal!
Basically, a mix of RTS and Roguelike (but in real time), with randomly generated map.
Something I adore in some roguelikes: there is no tutorial, you understand and discover the game and its mechanisms. It is the surprise of every moment and we learn from his mistakes.
Despite its poor graphics, its lack of music/sound and I do not cling at all to RTS (but I love the roguelikes), I am addict.
As in any Roguelike, self-confidence is fatal (death is permanent) yet as soon as I die, I immediately raise a game.
The game also avoids the disadvantage of some RG (like don't starve for example), because once in hand the start of the game is very fast, one quickly becomes autonomous which allows quickly to go in exploration, not obliged to spend a lot of time to redo everything When you start from scratch...
You play the role of a boat captain at the time of rebirth will we say and you and your crew have just failed you on an unknown island.
You will start by cutting a few trunks of trees to make you a hut, to stitch other trees so as not to be in shortage, etc...
As in any RTS, you generally give your orders to your men, who will execute them. You will have to manage resources (and their chains of harvesting and processing), build buildings, progress in the technological tree, trade, expand your territory, etc...
At first it is essentially Islands that you will see, so it will have to sail from one to the other and found colonies.
Moreover your men will claim gold to work, otherwise they will send you to wander, go to live their lives and let the buildings deteriorate...
But the character of the captain you play it on the ground: you move it, you have an inventory, you explore, unobtrusively crush your neighbor, you fight on the battlefield (including wildlife), shave enemy structures...
Small peculiarity that adds a lot of chilli: your orders, your Captain gives them orally to your men, which requires you to be close to the character to whom you want to give an order!
Basically, as in any Roguelike, you hardly know what's going on outside your field of vision! (which can disrupt RTS regulars)
And you have a serious interest in securing your backs and making rounds on your territory.
The actions and orders are made via a menu of dialogue with your men, with choices offered. It may sound strange and boring said like that, but I think it's fine, we get it done very quickly.
There are legends, treasures and artifacts to find, to identify.
For now I have already discovered an underground world in addition to the world of surface.
