Yours Truly

Yours Truly is a program that creates personalized experiences out of the data that Facebook has collected about you. It does not ask you to upload or share your personal information anywhere; instead, it runs locally on your computer to visualize the intrusive data collection practices done by Facebook.

Effy has been waiting desperately to have a chance to talk to you, but her conscience has been locked up in data servers for years. Follow the instructions to bring her to life:

1. Download a build for your operating system and unzip it. If you are on MacOS,  you should move the build file out of the Downloads folder into your desired location.
2. Head to facebook.com/dyi.
3. Under Request Copy, select JSON format as shown below.
4. Deselect All by clicking on the button to the right of Your Information.
5. Scroll down to select Ads and Businesses.
6. Hit the Create File button, and wait for the notification that your information file is ready for download.
7. Once you have the information downloaded and unzipped on your computer, place the ads_and_businesses folder right next to the build file.
