Id rather call it OK than meh. Problem is, at its worst its extremely irritating, while at its best its simply alright. The story and loredumps were also completely uninteresting, yet ever present and regularly reiterated. Developer succeeded at emulating the retro games full of things people love to hate (like bad checkpoints, pushback on hit, autoscroller with instadeath pits, multiphase final boss where early phases serve no purpose other than wasting your time on retries and etc.), instead of taking the formula and improving it for the better like The Messenger (2018) did.
Overall, simply an OK experience with nothing outstanding about it.
