I was pretty late to the Doki Doki party and didn't play the game until the beginning of 2021. Shortly after completing the story, this version got announced so when I got around to playing this, I skipped through a lot of the main story.
With that being said, I view the main portion of this game to be its side stories, which make Doki Doki Plus a far more enjoyable experience for me personally. The original game's story was fun and cool, but for me, that's all it was. Was just fun and cool. Plus, however, brings a story that personally impacts me on levels that I never imagined it would. Feeling like every other line written in this game, I could relate to with what I'm currently going through in life. Feeling like Dan has secretly been watching how my life's been playing out in the past year while writing this. Many times I almost cried, due to how impactful the story was.
Trust was a story that started off fun and ended with me almost crying. Respect was a story that was filled to the brim with lines from Natsuki that sounded like the same ♥♥♥♥ I've been saying for the past year and Self-Love was the sweetest, most relatable side story in the game.
Overall, a running theme in this game for me was relatability, something that no game I've played has been able to pull off as greatly as Doki Doki Plus did. Doki Doki was a solid 7.5 from me, a pretty enjoyable experience that I didn't think I would have (visual novels aren't really my thing). But Doki Doki Plus is easily getting a 9/10, maybe even a 9.5, depending on how I'm feeling. I can see this game entering in my top 10 favorites of all time after some reflection.
So to Dan, even though I was late to your game, thank you. Thank you for the emotional journey you brought me on.

Without spoilers, it's a masterfully-crafted VN with a plot full of twists. I lost my progress after finish Act II and was unable to recover, which is frustrating. It's made me think about life in a new way.
«That ending!»
Just Monika.
Doki Doki Literature Club is one of my favourite video games to ever come out, ever.
Without spoilers the first two hours of this video game start off as a cutesy, fun visual novel but it swiftly turns straight into psychological horror with a bittersweet, wonderful ending. The graphics are beautiful, the premise (which I won't spoil) is a phenomenal social commentary. My favourite scene is, without spoiling, The Confession (you know if you've played), the detail in that one particular scene's animation is stunning, like I was really impressed by it.
Anyway, this version adds extra features, usually with the help of an in-game virtual machine that not only fills the roles of the section where you have to tamper with the game's files (because you can't do that on console and the original version was on pc!) but also adds extra features like Side Stories, extra music etc. There are also more detailed descriptions of what you are getting into, which is helpful for the many who might find the content in this game traumatic, because it is highly disturbing, as well as the ability to turn on a "Content Warning" feature in the Settings.
I also think it's important that this game got a age rating, because as PEGI says, this game contains "Extreme Violence" and "Strong Language".
Just play it for yourself.
