Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition review
Meh
by BigLadMelton

I like some parts of this Re-Re-Rerelease, But other parts not as much...

The good parts is, The checkpoint system is very convinient, I do like having that in these old games, I'm also very happy with the GTA V style controls, It's really improved the experience for me.

Now, what's not good?

Well, on the PS5 and Series X the game runs very poorly, for nearly over 20 year old games, the graphics look awful, except from the overall cartoony style, some character modes look shittier than the PS2 counterpart, and even on the 'performance mode' on the Series X/PS5 the game still struggles to reach 60FPS!!

for a whopping £60, these are nothing more than simple 'ports' with some good visuals and improvements. but removing the original trilogy, (priced at £17.99 on the PS4) is just a cheap move, hell, they're now offering the Original 3 for free, if you buy the new Trilogy on the PC!

For two years worth of work for 3 amazing games, I expected better, I will still finish them, I did pay £60 for them, but I'd highly advise waiting for a steep discount, or if they improve it, sure, It'll be better...

That's terrible.

All the games are bad optimized. It's hard to get plus 30 fps at high settings - and the game still looks old, but with modern ilumination. The gameplay isn't any better - it shoudn't feel like a two decade old game anymore, but it do. And the AI? let's not talk about it, please. Also, there are a lot of bugs.

In 4K, some cutscenes plays like a powerpoint for some time, missions just fail instantly eventually, other even start. Dude, It was hard to finish all those three games. Thank god it's over.
