Really, really solid, but also somewhat aged like milk

Absolute classic! Interesting world that's fun to explore, a great classic fantasy plot and faithfully based on AD&D.
Too bad AD&D is garbage...

The game has some interesting mechanics that actually make your choices matter. So much so that some of them can lead to instant death or make the continuation almost impossible. Player has a lot of freedom, which is both game's feat and downfall. Gameplay is not good enough to make you engaged for a long time, and pieces of narrative are too much separated in time. All in all, it hasn't stood the test of time.
Story: average
Narrative: rare
Choices: aspiration for modern RPG's
Gameplay: cumbersome
Graphics: minimal

The most Important thing in advance: Is BG1 EE WORTH £20for? No! Way too expensive.
In the Sale for 5-8 € but it is absolutely worth the Money!
In Terms of size alone, BG2 EE WOULD then have to cost €100,000. ;-)
You don't ask for a Golf GTI the same as for a Porsche ...
BG1 is one of the most important Computer Games, as it virtually revived the RPG genre on its own at the end of the 90s, and without BG1 our Game world would look a little different.
For me personally, BG2 + AddOn, TES3: Morrowind and Might & Magic 6 are the best role-playing Games ever.
But without BG1, BG2 and probably Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim would not have existed.
For the Time, BG1 was certainly one of the best RPGs, but the Story is actually just Average, the Fights rather boring, the Choice of Armor, weapons and Gimmicks manageable.
The lively Game world, the Interaction of the Characters, NPCs and Factions are and were outstanding Features and still today with the best there is.
About the EE: I like all the Possibilities to adjust the UI, Storymode (have the Stuff through back then) and the Characters are no longer totally pixelated, but now look halfway good. You don't have to zoom completely into it, then of course you can see everything Sch. th out.
You definitely have to read the graphics/UI and Gameplay Options through and adapt to your Liking before the game starts. But don't you always do that?
Negative Points are the Quest Log and Diary. Only a small Window opens, in which the text is completely uninspired. Really embarrassing!
BG1 EE, on Sale until £10, is always worth buying for New Entrants.
I bought it because nowadays a clean Installation is just as important to me as the Actually game.
Installing an old 90s Game + Mods can end up under Win10 pretty bad. ^^ Have the Honor.

The game itself wonderful and remastered really well, too bad that the Beamdog (home of this title) on its Beamdog Client distributes version 2.0 of the game updated in March 2016, while on the App Store there is only 1.3. I contacted the manufacturer by email asking for explanations, also because I bought Baldurs Gate II on the AppStore, spending almost 40 and asking for Siege of Dragonspear on the AppStore to be unavailable. They replied that they are only available in Beamdog Client on Steam and that, since I need BG I installed if I want to play with them, I have to buy back through Beamdog Client or Steam Baldurs Gate: Enhanced Edition because the old version is available on the App Store! I asked for the reimbursement of the purchases then to Apple but since it does not depend on them and a purchase the different time ago obviously I have not been refunded the 40. A single word to describe the whole: SCAM. Software house really not serious and doesn't care about its customers. I wanted to buy all the saga of the games I grew up with but don't buy anything at all !!!

Hi,
a very clear 6-star game!
If you like that, that's important, of course. The graphics are old-fashioned, no 3D, no real-time game as is always the case today. But that's what I like. The AD & D control system is mature and well implemented, it's turn-based, you can always pause, it's fun to play and not just hectic.
I like to play such complex games in german, that's not the case with the lyrics, but it's understandable, so no problem. How to set german language for that I needed something, also the introduction / tutor, so to speak before the game, did not work very well. Please do not give up at the place, afterwards in the game everything is nice. I play it on a Retina 2013 notebook with an external video. This is also very good in window mode, so that you can check mail on the other screen in between, or write reviews. :)
Who wants good 3D graphics, real-time egoshooter will clearly be disappointed, not buy!
If you like role-playing games, you know how to calculate a good control system, if the "game joke" content is more important than the graphics will be enthusiastic and should absolutely buy it (!). Many hours of fun for relatively few gold pieces.

Isometric crpgs have come a long way since Baldur's Gate 1 pioneered the genre 2 decades back and its a wonder that it still holds up in the Enhanced Edition re-release.
A design priority that sets BG apart from the rest of the genre is the focus in free form exploration and roleplaying. Being narratively light, it might turn away some players but at the same time it give greater freedom to craft your own own story. There are numerous optional areas to explore and companions to find, something that offsets the companion death mechanic. I wish we had more choices to make in the plot though.
In a sense it's closer to Elder Scrolls games than one might presume.
