Chroma Squad review
by Max Savenkov

A very good tactical RPG in Japanese style. Some great ideas, like additional goals per level. Storyline could have been better, though, and robot-fighting action sequences feel somewhat out of place in the genre.

Chroma Squad – Go, go Pixel Rangers! The Game takes you back to the Days of the 90s, the Days of trashy Talk Shows and other over-centered TV entertainment programmes, such as the Power Rangers. What to expect ... After a little Engagement with the Director, your Group of stunt Men/actors decide to take matters into their own Hands. For This purpose, they start a Production Company in short and start producing and marketing their Own Series in an old Warehouse. Your Task will be to guarantee the Popularity of your Series from Season to Season, to get lots of new Fans and to increase the Rating rate. This can be achieved by performing Directorial Instructions, working together in Teamwork, using special Skills or simply skewing the Opponents. Your Team consists of 5 different Actors, which you can change at The Beginning. Each Actor has Bonuses or Mali, which become even more specialized through their Film Role. In The End, you have 5 Specialists with different Skills, similar to how you know it from the classic Role-playing. All Beginnings are hard ... Because you're still facing some Starting Problems at the Start of the Game. The Studio is small, the Outfits and Props modest, there can be no Talk of Marketing and somehow there is a lack of special Effects. Comes Time, comes Advice ... As the game progresses, you unlock additional Features for your Production Company that will help you make your Series even more successful. On the one Hand, they allow you to make or buy cooler outfits and Props. Of course, it is made stylishly with Things like Plastic, Tape, Glitter etc., as befits a really trashy TV production. However, you can also simply buy Outfits and Props in the Shop, which is available from the Beginning of the Game. These Outfits will then be put on in a spectacular Squad Transformation after collecting enough ratings within a Sequence. On the other hand, you have the Marketing and the Mecha Department, which are then unlocked in the first Episodes. Marketing, for example, can provide more Money, better ratings or more Fans. Of course, you don't get anything gifts and to unlock these Extensions you have to use your fan power, which is the Sum of your Fans. The Mecha department will then add the ultimate Special Effects. This is the Feature that makes you modify your huge Combat Robot. Improvement are also made here, naturally in style, initially with Cardboard and Tape. The Episodes and Seasons ... The Seasons are divided into Episodes as you know it from TV series and mostly follow the same Pattern. Trashy Sayings, Defeating Minions, Squad Transformation, Trashy Sayings and defeating the Boss. The Synchronised is rounded in an isometric Perspective. As soon as the Final Boss of the Episode is defeated, another Boss fight with the same Boss follows, only in its enlarged Form against your Mecha. This Fight is also turn-based, but from its Point of view it is more like a beat em up. The Places where the individual Episodes play are repeated every now and then, but it seems that it was probably The intention of the Developers, because it takes itself a little bit on the Rails. As the Season Ends, your Serial Heroes will continue to gain Properties, your Production Company will receive more Money and more Advertising Contracts will be offered in The Marketing sector. Sounds boring?! But Thanks to the Story, which is quite entertaining and has a few unexpected Turning Points, is also playable several times. Because there are a total of 3 different Storyendings. In addition, it is easy to get to the end of the Story on the Simple Difficulty ridge and still remains a fun Affair until the End. The various Bosses and Minions, with their oblique designs and good mood music, help ensure you don't get bored. Verdict Chroma Squad is certainly not everyone's Thing, but for Lovers of Trash, kids of the 90s and Pixel Romantics quite worth a Look. I had put off the Price beforehand, but then bought it cheaply and was very surprised by the content and the wittily kept Story, although I never watched the Series as a Child! Still, somehow the Kid in me came up and someone would have noticed me Enthusiastically shouting "Go, Go Chroma Squad! ..." I certainly wouldn't have been shown a Bird once! So For me it was great Fun and worth the Money and the alternative Storyendings I will certainly try to play!

No much to say about the turn based fights when you plays as your squad more than that is fun. The story itself feels like a great parody of these type of tv shows. But then we have the mecha fights. Oh man, the mecha fights is horrendous and annoying time to time. The bosses doesn't miss at all, can take more than half of your health. Sometimes the mech your are playing as have some tendencies to miss after the second hit. I would appreciate that you fix this. Otherwise a nice and fun game.

I've been playing this game for about 75 hours and it's not boring yet. It's more like a TV series I want to know how to continue in the next episode. 9/10 points in total One point deduction, because the control on my iPhone SE is a bit inaccurate and info windows are sometimes hidden by my finger. If I let go, the windows disappear. That will certainly be fixed. Otherwise very very cool and for Power Rangers fans and 90s childhood anyway a must have! :) Have fun, I'll go on saving the world!
