As an old Hellgate London Fan, I still own the Original (Flagship Studios) from 2007, which I installed again about 1 Week ago after all these Years (Win10). Here the Single Player unfortunately stopped at Version 1.2 (only the Multiplayer was already on 2.0).
When I saw that Hellgate London is now making its Comeback again (how many times it was made up again and then Rammed back in ...), and the Single-player includes Version 2.0 and even Hellgate Tokyo (will probably be delivered for free later, as Performance Issues) , I have struck. Although it is only in English, almost everyone is proficient in it today. You can't really do anything wrong with the Price ... I Thought.
The first thing that struck me was right after the Start in the Settings. No DirectX10 like the 2007 predecessor (DX9 only). Quickly looked into the Game Folder, actually just DX9. And I noticed the next Negative Point: No x64 as with its Predecessor. I mean... HALLO, we're living in 2018. MacOS no longer supports 32bit in the next Release, and Windows certainly won't take much longer to get just 64bit.
But good ...
Game started. Then came the knockout Criterion. It lags, or jerks like Hulle. And at the very Beginning I am in the subway station. What it looks like when you're at The Butcher, I just didn't want to do to myself. I admit that I put everything on Max, but that's also more than fluid with THE parallel Hellgate London from 2007 (even with DX10).
I have already read a little about Lags in another Comment. Even my Computer is not the slowest (i5 8600K @ 4.3GHz, 16GB Ram, GTX1080 (8GB) & SSD). So Should run smoothly. Should...
My Conclusion: Prefer to Buy the Original from 2007 (there are certainly on ebay etc.). But make sure the Key is still there. :D Here You only have the Single Player up to Version 1.2, but at least it doesn't jerk. There is also a Community Project that has restarted the Multiplayer from old Hellgate London (not compatible with the Steam Version). The Whole thing is Called London2038. Even "only" in English, but Multiplayer with Version 2.0. For this You definitely need the old Original Game on DVD in English. If you have it just like me in German, you can Convert it into the English one after the Installation. Here is the Link to the Project: https://london2038.com/I will keep the Steamversion, simply to see if the Points I have raised will not be implemented after all. Would Be a shame if you let it stand like that. Because then it could have been left with the Old.
