It's not so much that I find torchlight bad, but it is no longer worth the detour in 2019 in my opinion: as much go direct to the excellent torchlight 2.
In question, too simplistic gameplay: no real build of personal to develop, not much synergy between skills (in any case in Alchemist). This is the basic hack'n'slash that incorporates the codes of Diablo 1 and the graphics of Warcraft 3 (we will not be surprised that the dévs emanate from Blizzard...). Ah, and the music of Diablo also, since it is the same composer. This is another concern of the game besides: too little identity in the end, 90% of the mechanics are identical to Diablo and only the familiar brings a strand of originality not necessarily more useful than that...
One does not really get bored because of the one and only Dungeon that we traverse, but rather because of a gameplay not so dynamic that it because of frankly interesting skills, and a development of the perso in General that is rather unaddictive. The champions from the same mob always have the same stats and skills, most of the enemies struggle to put in default since they are basically mobs body to body (besides the game is too simple even in difficult)... In short, the monotony strikes too harshly, even for a hack'n'slash that wants to base a repetitive strand.

It's a good little hack and slash, with a rather anecdotal scenario, but not unpleasant, three classes available (I only tested the Vanquisher, IE the archère/Gunslinger), with a pet (dog or cat, possibility to turn it into making him eat fish).
The game takes place in the Dungeon located under the town of torchlight, there are 35 floors in total to beat the final boss, some floors being quite empty because boss fights. The game is fun, the controls are good enough to be able to do everything easily, there are a lot of shortcuts that help, etc. The mobs, varied, with a lot of different abilities (indicated under their bar of life when you target them) are releasing a bundle of loot, whether it be gold or equipment, more or less rare and magical.
There are in the city of walkers, an enchanting that allows to add bonuses to your equipments (with a chance, more and more large, to remove all enchantments), there is a type that allows to merge objects to create the best (practical for potio NS and gems). The equipment can have sockets, in which you can put gems that add more bonuses.
At each level rise, 5 points to put in your stats and a point to put in your skills (some being very useful), with every rise of reputation, a point to put in your skills.
Small detail that is frankly top: there are scrolls that allow you to return to the city and then return to the Dungeon, where you were (in addition to the checkpoints about every 5 floors) and above all, you can give the equipment to your pet company and ask him to go and sell everything in town. So no full inventory problem, which is great in a game where loot is also important.
For me a good 8/10, it took me 2pm to finish the story in normal (although I'm not crazy enough to continue after the main story, the farm for the loot, and the achievements, it goes 5 minutes, nor to restart the game... Maybe one day with another class and/or in a higher difficulty, when I would have finished my backlog)
