The Quarry review
Meh

Not even close to the quality of Until Dawn. What happened here?

Ooh strong start. I really enjoyed the prologue and chapter 1. The graphics are insane. Maybe the best I’ve ever scene? This type of game allows for top quality graphics but they are delivering. The writing and voice acting so far has been quite good as well. My first impressions make me think this will be my favourite interactive story game, which is currently Detroit become human.

Chapter 2 a bit slower but not bad.

Finished chapter 3. Story not picking up quite as fast as I’d like. The prologue was still the best part so far but I’m still having fun. Mel is out though. I tried.

I don’t like Jacob. He’s a simp. I don’t like Emma. She’s the worst. I don’t like Dylan. He’s annoying.

Some of the decisions don’t seem to do what they say they will do. It seems weird.

The writing is getting worse I feel. This skinny teen lifts up a 280lbs man off his feet with one hand and the other two teens don’t say anything about it… what?

God these graphics are good though. Great camera angles too. The presentation is incredible.

I’m liking the prologue characters being back. That but has been better. They are my faves.

Ryan’s character was pretty good at first but now I don’t like him. Why is he so into Chris. It’s annoying.

I blew it with so many decisions and quick time events on the last two chapters and got like everybody killed. It was definitely a “bad” ending for the game. Damn. Like pretty much everybody died. I had a fun time though. I blew it when I played Detroit become human also.

Overall, Detroit become human is still my fave story choice game I think. I remember the decisions being done better.

Final Score: B+

For the genre itself, it's a pretty great interactive mov-- game! The graphics are great along with the amazing motion capture. The perfomances of the actors are really great! This felt like the usual cheesy teenager horror movie. As a movie, it felt very good. But not Supermassive's best game.

Supermassive really has a knack at making these twisting horror games. I really enjoyed the sort of 80's slasher vibe they were going for and I think they did a great job. I think all the characters are pretty good with Dylan easily being my favorite. Others like Ryan, played by Justice Smith, could be uneven at times. The overall narrative of the game is good and has a few twists to what you think is going on. It did feel a bit more straight forward than some of their other games though. I did run into what I assume is a bug since a lot of other players ran into this as well. Playing a certain character you need to shoot in the allotted time or be killed. I pulled the trigger repeatedly without firing and was killed. With these games, the autosaves keep you from noping out because you didn't like a decision. Normally that's fine but I did everything right and still got killed. This was right near the end and it just took the steam out of my playthrough as I had to keep going knowing that character was gone. Aside from that incident I had no issues with any gameplay moments. Where these games really shine is the small moments that you might not think are important but come back in a big way later. The branching paths these games can take make these games something special.

I rather like the Supermassive Games ... games. As a big fan of high-quality horror, this hit the right notes for me.
