Black Myth: Wukong review
Exceptional
by Rogueh

Black Myth: Wukong is an absolute masterpiece and one of the best action-RPGs I’ve ever played. Game Science took the legendary Journey to the West and turned it into a visually stunning, emotionally resonant, and incredibly fun experience that stands shoulder to shoulder with God of War, Elden Ring or Sekiro. The story respects the source material while adding real philosophical weight. Combat is spectacular — demanding but fair, with the 72 transformations and four staff stances giving genuine variety. Bosses are creative masterpieces, environments look like living Chinese paintings, and the transmog system lets you look cool while optimizing. It’s accessible enough for most players yet deep enough to satisfy veterans. Technically solid on PC, generous content, and that addictive “just one more boss” feeling. Yes, one late-game boss is annoying and the Xbox version came late, but these are small complaints next to everything the game gets right. Over 25 million copies sold and Steam GOTY winner — the numbers speak for themselves. If you love mythic action-RPGs with gorgeous presentation and satisfying combat, this is essential. The Monkey King reigns supreme. Full French review: https://rogueh24.fr/test-du-jeu-black-myth-wukong/

While the game was fun, i feel like i got every bit of enjoyment out of it without having beaten the final boss. Might not pick this back up again but I'm satisfied with where i concluded the story for myself

I tried so hard to finish this game—not because of the frequent, frustrating bosses every 10 feet, but because of how boring it is. Also, a lot of people got misled by early impressions and comparisons to God of War, when in reality, Black Myth: Wukong is way closer to a Soulslike—just not as refined.
 Here’s my take:
 -Graphics are good.
-Gameplay feels like a boss rush. Nothing interesting along the way.
-Boss mechanics can be interesting but often feel annoying.
-The world is large but empty, with too many dead ends and invisible walls.
-Combat is clunky and shallow—no guard, no parry, just repetitive moves.
-The story exists, but no one pays attention because of how poorly it’s presented.
-The protagonist is a muted monkey, making the character feel lifeless and empty.
-Save points are frustrating, often placed near strong enemies that kill you right before you can save.
I never expected this game to demoralize me so much. Maybe the overwhelmingly positive reviews set my expectations too high. But in the end, this game doesn’t make you feel like a God-like Monkey King—just a dumb monkey with a stick and some stances. A monkey that can’t climb, can’t double jump, can’t run on walls—can’t do anything. All you can do is run and spam the same boring moves over and over.
