Hellslave review
by Rogueh

Hellslave is exactly the kind of indie game that doesn't look like much and ends up hooking you. Behind its modest budget and rough edges hides a rich tactical dungeon crawler with a meticulously crafted atmosphere that fully owns its dark fantasy identity. It's not for everyone: if you hate fumbling to understand mechanics or find turn-based combat boring, run away. But if you enjoyed Darkest Dungeon and want a dark gem on a budget, the pact is worth it. The turn-based combat is genuinely deep and gratifying – the six-demon pact system offers huge build variety, and when a spell combo clicks, it's exhilarating. The oppressive, twilight atmosphere is the game's strongest asset, with a consistent tone and a thematically successful pact mechanic that stains your character. The hand-drawn art direction is grimy and full of character, and the soundtrack nails the descent into hell. The downsides: unclear interface, poorly explained mechanics, tedious map navigation, some frustrating craft failures, and combat that can get repetitive. It lacks polish, and the limited budget shows. But if you can look past that, you'll find a sincere, author-driven experience with real personality. A sequel (Hellslave II) is due in 2026. Small budget, big personality. Full French review: https://rogueh24.fr/test-du-jeu-hellslave/
