Slay the Spire is probably the best of the recent flood of deck-building games. It borrows a lot from deck-building board games such as Dominion, but that's in no way a bad thing. The game is intuitive and easy to pick up, but I never felt it was lacking in depth. It's lighthearted and never takes itself too seriously. The different playable characters have distinct, separate playstyles, so if one of them isn't your thing (looking at you, Defect), you can always play with a different character. My only complaint is that there's a fair amount of bad items/cards you'd almost never want to waste your money on. There's some permanent unlocks (cards, for example) that help make the game less RNG dependent, but, even without them, the game is pretty fair overall (especially so if you've played other deck-builders like Dominion).
Recommended to all players. Slay The Spire isn't super beginner friendly, but it's easy to learn.

A masterfully crafted game that combines the best aspects of the card and video game mediums and merges them into an unforgettable experience. The immense care and thought that took place during development is clear in the complex yet easily comprehensible systems that intertwine throughout, promising vast amounts of synergies between passive and active abilities in combination with player strategy in taking on greatly varying foes. A complete session will take about 60-90 minutes, but the goal of progress between runs will easily take up an entire weekend at the least, as you strive to first unlock every card and item, then complete various modifiers on runs after beating the game. Fans of games such as Binding of Isaac and Risk of Rain will feel right at home, if for some reason they haven't picked the game up already. And yes, there is a very extensive selection of mods, but even console versions can make use of the included custom game mode to push the game, and themselves, to the limit.
This game is a great example of why I don’t like the names of the 4 review statuses. This game is not meh. It’s actually very addictive and clever. I had a fun time with it and my hours quickly ramped up to ~20 hrs. The game is a clever card building game that is simple while also being quite complex in the long run. It’s relaxing once you get the hang of it because a lot of the decisions become automatic. The first time I beat the spire I was so excited. The second time was less exciting but still fun. The third time even less, as you would expect. This game was a good find due to gamepass. I’m happy I have it a shot.
Final Score: B+

As a Magic: The Gathering fan, I found this card game had an incredible level of depth to the strategy and gameplay. Yes, there is variance through random loot and the randomised dungeon. However, it doesn't feel punishing, but rather creates an enjoying experience of having to strategise card choices and synergies on the fly. The Ascension mode is the endgame, which adds a lot of replayability where a very high skillcap is needed to survive the higher levels.

Early Access Review Personal Impression: This Game offers much more than just a standard Card Game!
You will experience something new again and again thanks to the randomly generated "Dungeons," which currently consist of 3 Levels.
There are numerous Ways to develop a strong Deck. That's Exactly what The Appeal offers. It's incredibly Fun to get to your destination with the Cards you get after a Fight and thus, at best, get to your Destination.
Even though there are currently only 2 Characters to choose from, this Game offers a lot of Scope. Because there are not only Cards on which you build your own Deck, but also so-called "Relics." Relics award different Types of Buffs. They are collected by different Species and Ways.
This Game offers challenging Gameplay In which something changes all the time.
The Developers are also currently working very laudably, on Weekly Updates and it is always Fun to read through the new Patchnotes every Week and try out the Changes in the Game.
Unfortunately, in my Opinion, there are still too few Animations at the moment.
There could also be some more Music in the Game.
It would be Nice to have a little more Content to unlock.
To the Negatives, of course, it has to be noted again that this Game is in the early access.
Points Rating The Scoring in an early access game is of course always difficult and could go down strongly to the Detriment of developers. That's why I would like to say at this Point that this is the following build: 15.02.2018 Gameplay: 8/10 Story:-/-(There's not really a story) Diversity: 8/10 Long-term Motivation: 8/10 Graphics: 7/10 Animations: 6/10 Effects: 7/10 Sound: 7/10 Points Gesa mt: 7/10
