STAR WARS Galactic Battlegrounds Saga review

This is Age of Empires in the Star Wars setting and this concept works great. Not so many factions to choose from but still good. Maybe today it’s a little aged and years ago the game felt better but I still think it was a good try and a fresh idea within the Star Wars game universe.

I really thought about how to start this Review, and that's when I thought I should just start with a little Anecdote from my Childhood. I was still quite small, and I still know exactly how I was pleased when the Clone Campaign for Battlegrounds was finally released. Back then, unfortunately, that had a Flaw on my System, and my Dad spent the whole Evening getting the Thing to work while I had to go to an unimportant School Performance. Then when I got home it actually ran, just unfortunately it was so late that I could only test it for a few Minutes, then I had to go to Bed and wait until the next Afternoon. That's been a hell of a long Time. So I am very pleased that I can now own this Game on Steam (besides the GoG version and the Original on my Shelf). As well as a few more Star Wars Games like the Jedi Knight franchise, this is clearly one of my Favourites here. The best way to explain this Game is an Age of Empires in the Star Wars Universe. Thanks to the AddOn, the Campaigns relate not only to the Episodes IV-VI, but now also to the Events of Episode II, in which, as we know, the Clone Wars are proclaimed. That is why a large Selection of "Peoples," or here better, groups has been mentioned. In addition to the Empire and the Alliance of the Rebels, you can also play The Naboo, Wookiees, Trade Promotion, the Galactic Republic, the KuS (Confederation of Independent Systems) or even the Gungangs, which actually have more on the Box than it Seems Has. After the Election, you start with a Main Building and a few Worker/droids. Then begins what is normal for such Strategy Titles. You start exploring the Map and depleting Resources. Of the Resources there are a few, you have to provide enough carbon (blue), novel Crystals (green), Ore (purple) and Food (red) to advance his Research and build Buildings, respectively, to produce units. To do this, you have to pay attention to your Unit limit, which you expand by building Accommodation. In order to prevail in the advancing War, it is important to improve its Research Level. Of course, you start at Level I and then build up to the Stage IV final stage, where everything was then researched and improved. With previous Research, you get Access to more Buildings and more powerful Units, such as the Sith/Jedi masters, or, on The part of the Empire, for example, the mighty AT-AT. Most Units are of course known from the Films, such as the aforementioned AT-AT, the X-Wing, rebel soldiers, storm Troopers, Etc. These can then be gradually improved with the Research, or replaced by newer Versions. Depending on your Mission or Game Mode, you will of course have other Tasks to do. The Story explains itself, in Skirmish (the Battle Mode against the AI) or In Multiplayer (whether this still works I don't know) you then have Modes like Death Match, or the Goal of eliminating the enemy Commander. (On The part of the Empire, this is Darth Vader himself.) Of course, this does not change the Actual process. You build, research and gather for the best possible Victory. For the newer Generation Players, of course, I can only say: Don't be put off by the Graphics, behind it lies a fantastic Game, which will give Star Wars Fans many Hours of Fun. For those who don't like the 4:3 Resolutions, there's even an All In One Patch that offers other Extras like more BGM (Background Music) in addition to a Wide screen feature. You can Find it via this Link: Click Me! One Thing I complain about, but which seems to exist in all RTS Games (Real Time Strategy-> Real-time Strategy), is finding the Way. Sometimes I would very much like to give my Troops a Compass for a better Orientation, but after several RTS Games you are already used to it. The Main Thing, they arrive at some point where I sent them, otherwise I adjust the Way manually. In general, you should keep an Eye on your Troops, because not only enemy Units can appear, but also the Wildlife is not exactly our best Friend. I'm just saying "freewheeling Rancor." For me, this Game is a Classic, anyway, and I hope that despite its proud Age, it can still find Fans who enjoy classic RTS.

Disappointed. The idea sounds fun but the realization is very poor. All factions are the same, the AI is dull, the balance is broken. Seems very unrealistic when a simple fighter kills a special unit with two shots. This game didn’t add anything to Age of Empires, except the skins, and just made a worse version of it.
