Final Fantasy VII review
by Ísak Agnarsson

While i give the game the highest rating on this website, its still an 8/10 for me.
If it weren't for that ending i would probably say 10/10 because the effort involved with the first 95% of the game, is incredibly detailed and fantastic.
I dont know what to say, i mean the original game is still lightyears ahead in terms of comparing the two but the strong points of the FFVII Re-imaginion (not remake) are clearly the amazing depths to the characters, the graphical upgrade obviously and the battle mode. The game also includes new game plus and plenty of challenges and things to do.

Spoiler alert:
Honestly i wouldnt criticise this game at all if it weren't for Nomura's stupid time travel, alternate timelines/universes ideas and how burned out the man is from doing so many projects for Squeenix. His desperate attempt to ruin Kingdom Hearts and adding that ingredient to this game as well, which was painfully obvious since they released it last year and he hasnt caught a break since, is too prevalent in this game. It doesn't belong in FFVII and the game is perfect until that ending where you're thrown into Goku/KH3 fiesta bullcrap with a Darkside boss etc. But he still hasnt ruined FFVII but he could very well do that now since Zack and the Avalanche gang will all most likely be revived, Aerith might die in a different way than usual but Cloud will time travel and save her with Zack or something (Which obviously would suck)

There's so many ways that looks like Nomura is gonna annihilate the FFVII project, just like he has done with Kingdom Hearts after 2010.
The worst part is obviously that Dragonball nonsense prevalent in KH where no one can die and people that were actually dead or hidden were all brought to life because of time travel and empty vessels addition, that there is no risk anymore, because only the bad guys might die, thats just his plan to do with each storytelling he apperantly needs to be at the helm of.
And i was afraid Nomura bring something like that to FFVII, which he has already introduced which is very concerning.

Anyway that being said, everything else is incredible and i cant wait to see the next parts, it looks like the Whispers have been destroyed which is a great thing, only thing they did was tone down the experience of the amazing cutscenes. Best FF since 2006, been quite some time since i was this impressed, now particularily where there hast been a good KH game since 2008 or something, its quite refreshing to see Squeenix still accomplishing something this big.
Too bad Sakaguchi wasnt more involved though, see that would've been the best game in the last 20 years on the planet.

Cloud thinks he’s hot shit. A lot of tude in that voice.

First 4 hours are fine but not this amazing game I heard about. The combat seems interesting and the world is cool enough but nothing has wowed me yet and the writing is cheesy. It’s normal for an RPG to take a bit of time to get going so it could easily pick up but as of now I’m not seeing the hype.

It’s pretty slow to start.

6 hours in. It’s fine but I’m not loving it or getting drawn in yet.

Walk here. Listen to slow bad dialogue. Push this button. Fight guys with a simple combat system that doesn’t demand a lot of anything. Walk to a new button to push and repeat. I don’t get why people like this game right now. It’s boring. Story, Gameplay, Progression. None of it is working for me yet.

Why do people love this game! I don’t get it. It’s bad and boring. Have I said this before?

I just fought a house in like a 30 minute fight. It was so long. Holy hell. It was a house.

Now the dance number. This game sucks. I’m baffled why people gave it such good reviews. Baffled.

Don Corneo. Wow what a guy.

This is going for the title “Most Overrated Game of All Time According to Dylan”. It’s an 88 on opencritic. Shadow of The Colossus is the only other game I’d say is more overrate. I really didn’t like it but I can see the appeal at least. But I stand by that SOTC remake is super overrated also.

Okay the combat is growing on me a bit. It’s getting more challenging so I at least have to actually think about what I’m doing.

The story bits about the ancients and the history of the planet was actually pretty cool. The last couple chapters have been better. I think they add too much filler in this game. They are really milking it and there isn’t enough going on in the first 18 or so hours which is a loooong time.

I’ve probably complained a bit too much because I had high expectations for this game and it wasn’t anywhere near them. That being said I think the game takes way too long to get going and they are milking the nostalgia which I don’t have.

I think I would have enjoyed this game a lot more if they decided to make it into 1 or maybe 2 games not 3 fucking games. The beginning was slow and boring and very much felt like filler. The last few chapters especially when in the Shinra facility have at least been fun and interesting. They throw a talking fire lion thing in there too.

Current Score: B

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (PC) - Finished on January 31, 2022.
I am afraid to admit that I missed FF series when I was a kid. I tried to get into it much later through the ones that are available on PC: FF XII, FF X, but none struck me as hard as this one. The visuals are what mesmerizes you from the start of the game, but the lovable characters and classic plot are what make this game a true Final fantasy.
P.S. Struggle through Intermission to experience true ending of the game.

Fun, gorgeous, engaging, relevant
Genuinely blew me away with how well they did. Can't wait for future installments.

I cannot believe this game is actually a real, existing thing. Somehow even better than what I would have made if the job were up to me. Waiting for part 2 is actually causing me physical pain.

I want to be able to play this but I can't for any length of time as it triggers motion sickness in me.
I was able to tweak some settings and calm the player camera down but the over the top camera movement and shaking during cut scenes meant they were unwatchable. What was the director thinking? The long awaited remake and they've made it unplayable for a large number of people. Absolutely gutted.
«Disappointment of the year»
I never played Final Fantasy before and this was absolutely epic. A game of magnificent scope, beautiful graphics, and a compelling narrative, with gameplay that feels good to play. Definitely understand why this franchise is as popular as it is.

«That ending!»
Was a big fan of the original so might be a bit biased but I am in love with this remake, it’s a pretty faithful adaption so far and it expands in the lore and world so much, it’s so cool to see the same places I’ve played over so many times in the original in high def glory and it really doesn’t disappoint at all.

The cutscenes are beautiful as usual for final fantasy games, same goes with the soundtrack obviously. The game does stumble a bit three quarters in with pacing I feel, the game stopped keeping me immersed for a bit and I was just in zombie mode through it but then it picked right back up and I couldn’t put the controller down.

I’ll most likely replay it before part 2 :)

The 40 hours flew by. The story was a great trip down memory lane with more depth. The combat has been spiced up to have a little more action and the graphics have been ever so slightly improved. There's not much of a sense of exploration but I'm okay with that. Instead, my biggest concern with this game is that Square Enix is going to milk this series long past when it should end.

Playtime: 40h
Enjoyment: 9/10
Recommendation: Fans of Final Fantasy or RPGs in general should definitely play it!
