"The number one killer is time."
The opening line of Quantum Break instantly grabbed my attention. The fantastic cast and attention to detail cemented it. I hope we see more experimental media like this in the future as the genre evolves.
Quantum Break is a TV show/game hybrid about the end of time. It not only features great actors like Shawn Ashmore, Dominic Monaghan, Lance Reddick, and Courtney Hope, but has them in a full fledged live-action series that follows the events of YOUR game. That is to say the events of the show change based on your decisions and actions while playing the game. Unfortunately, this means the game requires a steady internet connection to stream the show itself. If you can deal with streaming and the questionable performance of the PC port (I had to fiddle around with settings for longer than I usually do), then the game delivers on its promises.
I wasn't expecting much from Quantum Break's gameplay, but it actually turned out to be a pretty refined third-person shooter. Aided by fantastic sound design, Jack Joyce's time manipulating powers feel great to use and offer plenty of tools to overcome combat challenges and puzzles. The upgrade system involved scavenging for "Chronon Particles" hidden throughout the game. This detracted from the narrative experience. It felt strange to stop pursuing the urgent tasks the game presents me with to search rooms for upgrades. Admittedly, the upgrades don't really do that much to help, even on Hard. It would've been nice to have a less invasive upgrade system that more naturally integrated itself into the story-focused gameplay.
The story is extremely well written. It makes your choices feel impactful, it has compelling characters and performances, and it has well thought-out sci-fi time manipulation goodness. The world feels alive and evolves over the course of the game, and it has plenty of immersive notes and intel to gather and fill in supporting details. The end of the game sets up for a possible sequel, so expect a few unsolved questions.
I'd recommend Quantum Break to fans of Alan Wake, fans of sci-fi TV like Fringe, or fans of wonky time-travel. If the TV component doesn't interest you, the game will likely fall flat.

Doesnt fully take advantage of the time travel aspect imho, also the tv show/video game hybrud thing i think kinda of falls flat. That being said, good acting, cool story, fun abilities. Very proto-control.
The boss fight is mediocre. That's it. This is where all negative feedback ends. Great mind boggling story, and why not? It always has to be whenever time travel is involved. Remedy games leave their Max Payne footprint everywhere, such was the case in this game. The best thing about it was how your in-game decisions can not only change components of the story, but also in the Movie Episodes which run after every Act. Protagonist slowly gets more and more powerful, but so does the game challenges (play on Hard). Great graphics, interesting storyline, awesome effects, but average shooter experience. I wish some driving was also involved as opposed to just running.

Played the game a bit late. Optimization wise, it was okay. However, turning upscaling off destroyed the performance. Barely managed to get stable 75 fps @1080p without upscaling with a GTX 1080
Story was great. Beth Wilder's story in particular was amazing
I replayed some of the chapters to get all the achivements, which I succeeded (42/42).

A fine single player experience. For a game so focused on story I think the story was alright but nothing amazing. The TV gimmick they did was also fine but not that entertaining. The gameplay and time abilities are pretty solid. Visually I thought this game actually looked pretty bad. It looked sort of grainy to the point that I actually googled it to see if my Xbox or the settings were messed up. This game was solid but Xbox fan boys over hyped it because we have no exclusives. It’s worth a play through if you are in the mood for a 3rd person shooter campaign but it’s nothing to brag about.
Final Score: B+

This is a game that I really wanted to like, and first act of the game wasn’t that bad. As the game progressed….well…things started to lose me. Quantum Break is a beautiful game to look at, but now (in 2019) I have seen some improved graphics, but they are still impressive nevertheless. I think a lot of the hype surrounding this game was due in part to the powers involved (Remedy Entertainment and Microsoft) and the fact that this game was one of the first releases on next gen. The story of the game centers on Jack Joyce (Shawn Ashmore), who seems to be an “every man” stock character, who is granted time manipulation powers. He is not the only person to have been changed during this experiment/accident gone wrong as his friend, Paul Serene (Aidan Gillen)is also granted similar time manipulation abilities. Together the two clash over the impending event dubbed “the End of Time” that has been set in motion. This sounds like a good story on paper, but the game does not effectively execute this. I found myself bumbling about and engaging in these set piece action settings as opposed to feeling the need to push forward in the game. I take that back, I actually wanted to press forward in the game….just so I could beat it and be done with it. I was getting tired of the unimaginative powers and abilities and shootouts that litter the game and this needlessly convoluted and distant story also hanging overhead. The shooting mechanics are very barebones and uncreative. I wanted to rush through shootout segments just to get through them because they were needlessly challenging or outright uneventful and boring. I did not receive any sense of accomplishment or relief upon completing many of these action segments, even with a vast array of time altering powers at my disposal. Quantum Break is an okay game. I definitely won’t be revisiting it anytime soon. It’s very much a one and done kind of game. There’s nothing enticing to really bring me back to it. Also, the live action series that was made to accompany the game.....yeah, I could have done without that. It seemed like both a waste of time and besides Aidan Gillen (whose performance was questionable at times) and Lance Reddick all of the actors were absolutely terrible. The series is definitely worth skipping.

Quantum Break Quantum Break is one of the Games that has gotten some little Attention. Maybe it's because it wasn't hyped very highly, but one of the Games that deserved that rather than certain other Games. Nowadays you don't pay such attention to other Things, when another Game is on the Rise, it almost doesn't seem to matter how bad it is.
Quantum Break comes from the Studio of "Remedy Entertainment," which also became known for "Max Payne 1" & "Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne." Also "Alan Wake" is from this Studio and Quantum Break has "Microsoft Studios" As a Publisher. As a result, the Game is only available on Xbox & PC. As a Full Price Title, however, it was already on the Market for under €40, which surprised me very positively at the time, even though I bought it only later, because I just had too many Games still on my List.
Quantum Break contains a lot of Story and is one of the few 3rd Person Shooters in which you can just sit back for almost 15 Minutes and follow the Story. Daazu come the Actors you've probably seen in Movies or Series many times. Because you have Movie Sequences that aren't just animated, the Game seems much more vivid. Since you can make Decisions, different Scenes have also been shot.
Pro: + very good Graphics + great sound + Captivating Story + time Forces + well-known actors (animated and genuinely shot) + Decision-making Possibilities + Collectible, such as Background Knowledge and Radio & TV + Achievements Contra:-unfortunately not quite Bug-free-quite short- boring Weapons-stupid Opponents-sometimes a bit confusing (may also lie to me xD)-at Level easily (really very easily-should have played here thinking hard, since I was totally underwhelmed. See below) Conclusion: In my Opinion Quantum Break is a really Very good 3rd Person shooter with an excellent Story. The Story is thoughtful and not only captivating, but also partly a bit sad. Basically, this one shows how People react to enforce Your Ideals. Through the Actors, everything seems more like a Film and through the Story scenes, which are a little longer and almost resemble a Series, everything seems even more like a Film that you play yourself. Will definitely not be for everyone, but if you like a good Story and want to watch just a Movie for 10-20 Minutes, you're in good hands here. As the Game progresses, you strengthen your Time forces and you have a lot to read (if you want to), but you also learn more Background knowledge.
I didn't expect much from the Game as it didn't have a good Reputation at the Start, but I can't confirm this. Neither the Game is going badly or somehow has poor Control. Well, running badly is rather less possible through my System, but if someone claims the Controls were bad, you should think if it's not up to yourself.
Since the Game has given me some very leisurely Hours, there is a Thumbs up and I wish everyone a lot of Fun with it.
PS: I often play on easily to play the Story faster, but it was a Mistake here. I think it would be "hard" at the Difficulty level to play just as easily. Anyone with experience with Shooters or 3rd Person Shooters should Select the level "normal".

When I got the game from a monthly HumbleBundle, I checked the reviews and found them to be mixed at best. I cannot quite understand as I truly enjoyed both the story and the game itself with it's mechanics (think of Max Payne bullet time to get an idea but it has much more). Of course it helps if you are interested in a science fiction topic like time travel. If you do, you will find a story very well fleshed out. Liked the characters, too. Definitely a game I will play once more some time in the future.
Many bad reviews cited technical problems, I found none, maybe it had received patches by then. A few times it is not quite clear how to beat a certain enemy but hey, Google is your friend.
