After the disappointment that was the Episode Prompto DLC, I was pleasantly surprised by how good this one was. Episode Ignis takes place during Chapter 9 of Final Fantasy XV, and shows Ignis rush through the crumbling Altissia to save Noct, with the unexpected help from Lunafreya's brother, Ravus.
In terms of story and character progression alone I thought Episode Ignis was pretty on par with the base game. It touches on the friendship between Ignis and Noct, from the time they were kids, to now, as well as the emotional connection they have. It shows a new side of Ignis, a desperate and caring version, that adds so much to his character. As he's generally more reserved, calm, and holding the group together in the main game, this DLC shows just how far he'd go to save his friend. It also expands upon Ravus and Ardyn as well, something that was unfortunately lacking in the main game. Compared to the first two game DLC's, this one is the most essential to the game as well as ties up some loose ends.
Combat-wise the DLC is comparable to Noct's fighting mechanics in the game. With two daggers, and three elemental abilities to get the edge in combat, the combat in this game was a lot of fun. The various combo moves and the excellent grappling hook mechanic was a lot of fun as well.
In terms of length it didn't overstay it's welcome, like the past two DLC it remains at a couple hours of so in length, but what was cool was the optional alternate ending to the DLC/game that unlocks upon beating it. It was really cool to see what would've happened if things went differently. Whether or not you enjoy it or not is up to you, but I thought it was a cool little extra thing.
Overall I really enjoyed this DLC, so far it's my favorite, and the closest to matching the quality of the main game.

If only the base game was handled like this episode, it would be a masterpiece.
Episode Ignis has everything, the gameplay is refined from the original game, and it tells a story worth telling. You'll know how and what things happened at a pivotal moment in the base's game main campaign, and it sure delivers, the boss fights are good and you'll have a fair amount of Ardyn as well.
One of the highlights of this DLC is that you can have a "what if" scenario, and I won't spoil it but is a pretty neat addition and also gives a lot of charm to an already likable character that Ignis is. Speaking of Ignis, I wasn't prepared to the emotional punch fo the ending, it was beautifully crafted, scripted and acted (the Japanese voice acting never fails to amaze), so by the end of it, I was literally moved to tears.
From the three main episodes, I can't recommend enough episode Ignis above the others, it was beyond everything I imagined and I'm sure anyone who liked or loved the base game, would like this DLC a lot.
