Early Access Review Amid Evil Is a really ingenious Old-school Shooter that jumps into the Breach of Quake, Witches and Heretic.
I had the Title with other Old-school Shooters on my Wishlist, because it lay a few Months before I felt the Desire To gamble up Arena Shooter again. At first I got Dusk, but I returned it because it didn't really pick me up. Then I reached out to Amid Evil and it became a Revelation.
The Retro Look in the Game is just Super. The Level Architecture is a Celebration and the Textures created for it look Simply great in their HD Pixel Garb. Those who had an Amiga At that time and, for example, marveled at The artwork of a Shadow of the Beast or Hired Guns shown in HighRes in the loading screen, will get exactly that Feeling again at the Sight of this Game.
In Gameplay, the Matter really gets to Business. Everything runs Super Liquid Man battles through a Fantasy world inhabited By Lizard creatures, winged Demons and Knight creatures. You sit down to the defense with different Types of Wands that you find quite early in the Game. Collecting the Soul Splinters of your fallen Enemies, a Bar will fill up, which when it is filled will release you into the Wheel mode for a short Time. The Opponents AI is very good, which means that you don't just shoot at Cannon Fodder. The Opponents surprise you sometimes from a Cover or attack you from behind.
In addition to the Story Mode, there is an Endless Mode in which you can compete against Waves of Monsters.
The Game, meanwhile, is still in the E/A Phase, yet I have not been able to make out any Buggs in the Game so far, which speaks for the Developer. I've seen some Levels so far and there are a few more. New Content has already been announced. New Worlds and Levels I'm really looking forward to.
I can recommend Amid Evil to any Old-school shooter fan 100%. Riskers a Glance. The 17 euro is really well laid out.

Early Access Review System: I7-6700K @ 4.00GHz-16GB RAM – GeForce GTX 980 @ Win10 Amid Evil Is a case in point how great Early Access Can be. The product currently available is super polished and 3 of the planned 7 Campaigns are fully playable. As things stand, I also have no Doubt that the Product will be ready.
The Game itself rides on the current Wave of popular 90s Classic Shooters like DOOM, Heretic Etc. and that's what it's doing. There is a classic health system and gradually you unlock the Arsenal Of weapons in the Game. The Weapons look very stylish and suitable for the Setting, but basically represent the Classics like Shotgun, machine Gun, etc. Fortunately, An Update came quite quickly that lets you tie the Weapons directly on Buttons. With such a fast Pace Of Play, it is simply Fun to be able to select the right Weapon in the respective Situation without being difficult to try the Mouse Wheel etc.
The Graphic itself could reprise many. I don't mean the Retro Look General at All, but it's very colorful in part. You have to like that. It has grown close to my Own heart over time, but I also understand the People who say it's just too gaudy colorful for them.
The first two Episodes play very quickly with many Opponents etc. and clearly place the Value on Action. The third Episode (currently the last one) drops out a bit from my Point of view, because It is rather Puzzle-heavy. Doesn't quite match the Rest, but it's not a Total Failure either! Hope the upcoming episodes are more like the first Two Episodes again. Thematically, each Episode also looks different and has its own Opponents. However, The Number of them is manageable.
While Playing, I had no Crashes or technical Quirks whatsoever. Game runs butter-soft with correspondingly high FPS. The usual Gimmicks such as Vsync or Fov-Slider are also available, so everyone can adjust well according to their own Preferences.
I find the Price of under £20. absolutely justified. The Game serves a Niche anyway and the Developers have to live off something. I recommend it very clearly in the current Early Access status and hope the next Episodes will be ready soon.
