About

Avernum is an epic fantasy role-playing adventurer set in an enormous, subterranean nation. Avernum is a land underground, a subterranean nation full of rogues, misfits, and brigands, struggling for survival and wealth in the monster-infested darkness.

You have been banished to the underworld, never to see the light of day again. The surface is ruled by the cruel Emperor Hawthorne, master of the Empire. All of the known lands are subject to his brutal command. Everyone who speaks out, misbehaves or doesn’t fit in is cast into the dark, volcanic pits of Avernum, far below the surface. There, you are expected to die, a victim of starvation, horrible monsters, or simple despair. But not all of the Avernites have surrendered. With magic and steel, they are forging a new nation deep underground. You can join them and fight for safety. Or freedom. Or, if you dare, revenge on the surface-worlders who tried to destroy you. Join your new countrymen, explore a huge game world, hunt for hundreds of magical artifacts, choose from hundreds of quests, and become the hero of the underworld! Key features
  • Epic fantasy adventure in an enormous underworld.
  • Huge outdoors, eighty towns and dungeons, and hundreds of quests.
  • Three separate game-winning quests. Seek safety, escape or revenge. Complete just one or all three!
  • Unique races and settings make Avernum different from any adventure out there.
  • Hundreds of side quests and magical artifacts to discover.
  • Rich game system with over 50 spells and battle disciplines and a multitude of beneficial character traits to choose from.

Avernum: Escape From the Pit reviews and comments

Beautiful OLD-SCHOOL RPG. In Avernum: Escape From the Pit, you move freely through a vast underground dungeon world with its Group of 4 Adventurers. There, outcast People try to preserve a Kind of Civilization and to hold their own against the Lack of Light, Materilal, food, Nasty monsters and hostile Beings, etc. So Here you pull around, gain Experience, complete Quests and look for Treasures etc ... I find the Simplicity of the Game very sympathetic. Dialogues are kept sparingly and implemented in the Form of short, sometimes funny Texts. The Characters ' Personalities are essentially limited to their Appearance and Abilities. Quests are very inexorcable, you don't follow Compass Needles but rather strut through the Area and see what happens. Whether an Opponent is too tough is only to be seen when the Group is dead. Then you remember the Setting for later, when you are stronger. In short: Not everything is pre-chewed on the Player;) Graphics and Sound are very minimalist, but those who aren't bothered by it, for Is Avernum: Escape From the Pit a worthwhile purchase. Especially at the Price.

Spiderweb outdid Itself Wow, it was clear to me from the start that I would get back to enjoying a very entertaining and addictive India RPG's, but I wouldn't have expected Avernum to trump Avadon yet. I was directly intrigued when I realized that the Game offers a freely walkable World Map (a feature that I Think Is highly underrated). When I suddenly discovered Secret Passages and budgeted Treasures and triggered various Events, I knew that I would spend a lot of Time exploring Avernum. And I shouldn't be fooled, this Game has kept me loosely on a Whim for over 100 Hours. Hard to believe that this is just the first Part of a six-part series! Role Players coping with the spartan presentation should definitely check! The Game is available for 10 Euros on Steam. Who is clever is, of course, waiting for a Deal and thus gets it even cheaper. Those who are skeptical will grab the mammoth demo on the Spiderweb homepage. Pro and Kontra: Pro:-superbly written Texts that provide plastic Descriptions and represent both Story and Characters flawlessly-at the Request of very demanding Difficulty-very good Grid-based lap Combat System-very good Used Open world concept-no level cap like in the Avadon games-very long Playing time (I invested on hard locker over 100 Hours) Kontra:-audiovisual extreme spartan (even more monotonous than the Avadon titles because of the Setting)-visual Presentation virtually non-existent, so anyone who doesn't want to read the Screen Texts gets nothing with it. -Point & click mechanics in the Grid field Fights requires too much Precision, which is implemented in Avadon 2 more comfortably.
