Demon's Souls (2020)
About
From PlayStation Studios and Bluepoint Games comes a remake of the PlayStation classic, Demon’s Souls. Entirely rebuilt from the ground up and masterfully enhanced, this remake introduces the horrors of a fog-laden, dark fantasy land to a whole new generation of gamers. Those who’ve faced its trials and tribulations before, can once again challenge the darkness in stunning visual quality and incredible performance.
In his quest for power, the 12th King of Boletaria, King Allant channelled the ancient Soul Arts, awakening a demon from the dawn of time itself, The Old One.
With the summoning of The Old One, a colorless fog swept across the land, unleashing nightmarish creatures that hungered for human souls. Those whose souls were stripped from them, lost their minds – left only with the desire to attack the sane that remained.
Now, Boletaria is cut off from the outside world, and the knights who dare penetrate the deep fog to free the land from its plight, are never seen again. As a lone warrior who has braved the baneful fog, you must face the hardest of challenges to earn the title “Slayer of Demons” and send The Old One back to its slumber.

Demon's Souls (2020) reviews and comments
I don’t like the souls games that force you to make it past some point before they let you level up. That’s not fun. I also am not sure how I feel about the lack of health flasks and how you get half health after dying until you get your souls back… we will see.
I’m about 15 hours in currently. Decided to do a pure strength build which I’ve never done in a souls game before. Big bonk as they say. Honestly it’s been too easy. I got the dragon smasher and it hits hard. I’m beating bosses first try.
The graphics and world and design really do look incredible. The gameplay hasn’t been as engaging as other souls games.
I think health flasks are a better way for souls games. I’ve had periods where I run out of health leaves and need to go farm which is annoying and I’ve also had stretched where I have ridiculous amount of health leaves. Like the equivalent of 40 health flasks so as long as I don’t get caught in a blender or fall off an edge (which I do often) then I can go forever.
This game is maybe even easier than bloodborne which also cruised through. I’m beating bosses mostly on the first try. A couple it took 2 tries.
The boss fights honestly kind of stink compared to other souls games. Too easy and too many are just gimmicks.
Beat it. It ma definitely lowest on the fromsoftware scale. And I get its blueprint so it’s kind of different but still. It looked amazing. It was still fun. Just the gameplay and challenge was a bit simpler and that took a bit away from the experience.
Final Score: B+
Only thing holding it back was its lack of clear descriptions of stats and other elements you had to Google.
Overall a 9.5/10.
So, that's what I remember then, but Bluepoint has shown me something new about this game. I knew the moment to moment gameplay was fine-tuned, but I didn't realize how perfectly paced the level progression was. Every new section tests your abilities in a new way. Every new area requires you to scrape at the walls of your comfort with the game mechanics until you find a new path. And that's when the magic lives.
Hard as hell, but so good once you get through a certain hurdle.
