I was struck by the concept MMO-beat ' em up when I saw it on Steam and then to recommend it in Extra Credits because the beat'em up is a genre that I like.
I Had doubts about the MMO element and the disk space that could occupy (although Steam tells you that are 4 megs then throws a while downloading up to almost 18 gigabytes that indicates, I have seen at least more than 10) and the time it would require to feel comfortable in the game.
What I found was disappointed, because it was not what I expected for the screenshots and videos I had seen and the gameplay experience was even worse. Although I do not recommend it, considering that it is free, anyone who has interest or doubt that proves it.
The first thing that disappointed me was the lack of compatibility with the gamepad, which I consider fundamental in such a game. It can be used, but for many functions you will continue depending on the keyboard and are very used functions throughout the game, so it is very annoying. I think it is simply a failure in the remapping, because although I replaced the space by the key A of my command, when I asked to press space many times still had to press the keyboard or not advancing.
What I just killed is the overall aesthetics of the game and its "dirt". The game is too Japanese, too manga for my liking, which by what I had seen expected something more Final Fight or D&D arcades. For the record that more than an aesthetic problem (which is not bad although it gives a lot of war with the resolutions, another thing badly implemented) is a sensation. The dirty I'm afraid it is because in the screenshots is configured to minimize the hub and when you play gives you the feeling that there is "a lot of noise", which is typical of the MMO. I Also think that since I had problems with the resolution accentuated the problem.
Already in the choice of character I felt deceived, because I think it is a mistake to show you all the specialties of high level so that you choose one, if in the end you will start with one of the few basic characters. I created the character again because I thought something had failed and had not selected the one I wanted, I had trouble seeing the problem. I Think it is much more honest and less confusing that you choose only the basics and when you go to the corresponding level you the option to evolve. You Can't personalize the look of your character, something that I consider indispensable in an MMO and when you get to the city there are dozens of equal characters.
When playing I had more the feeling of playing fighting those jrpg in turns that a beat'em up, I do not know if it is because of the rhythm or lack of fluidity in the movements and attacks, but that was the feeling I had and obviously not what I expected.
The system of customizing the movements and combos in which you assign attacks to certain combinations I found very interesting although the tutorial is totally insufficient to help you understand and master the concept, says: This is there and it is done so, and point. And I think that's the heart of the game.
As with many MMO that take time has a lot of things that during the tutorial do not tell you, probably because when you did the tutorial did not exist and you find that most of what is in your inventory or in stores do not know that is not even for Sir See, that added to everything else gives you less desire to deepen.
The main problem I see is that the game needs a big investment of time and effort and that as many MMO will have to look for information in an external source (probably a wiki) and at this time I have no time or desire, plus the impression that I have Ford the minute I played was not at all what I expected.
I think an interesting concept and I hope it evolves and more people follow it, because it would be great to have a beat'em up open world where you could join your friends to accompany you as it happened in the recreation of my childhood.
I Don't think it's a bad game and less if it only takes half a year. But It is not for me and I do not recommend anyone for the clashes I have had with the configuration (command and resolution) do not think it is user-friendly or meet the expectations that give you to understand the videos and screenshots or genre. As a MMO I guess it's an interesting proposal to have a different combat system than the usual to activate attacks by disleasing numbers.
