About

Envy the Dead is zombie survival roguelike, where you are leading group of unique, randomly generated characters through destroyed lands, infested with zombies.

The game combines node-based exploration with random events, similar to games like FTL or Renowned Explorers with Tower Defense based battle mechanics. The characters are all randomly generated and they are all have different personalities, skills and traits.

The game is extremely hardcore. Your characters can be injured, infected, killed in battles or in accident. Your supplies of food and medicine are limited, and someone in your group will have to starve so all your group can survive.

During your travel, you can encounter hundreds of different events, in which you can find supplies, fight zombies or meet another survivors. Some events could require hard decisions with life and death consequences. For example: someone in your group was captured by bandits, and you must choose between leaving him to die, risking the whole group and getting him out or trying to trade him for some of your supplies.

Battles are based on tower defense mechanics. You must defeat waves of zombies or groups of other survivors, usings skills and abilities of your characters, teamwork and defensive structures.

Envy the Dead reviews and comments

"Envy the Dead" is a rogue-like zombie survival resource management game with Real-time combat elements. The Story: Apocalypse, Zombies, Few Survivors. There is no Need for more. The Basic Principle is a distant Reminder of "FTL" without ever even remotely achieving the Quality of this Stroke of genius. We start at one Map position and need to make the Way to the Card Exit, which is Usually at the Other End of the map, which leads to a new Card. To do this, we choose a next point on the Map where different Things can happen. We can find Loot, Survivors, a Trading Station or even a Zombie Horde. On one Card, we should not only survive, but also equip and level up well as possible in order to have a Chance at all on the next Map. However, we cannot stroll Endlessly, because from the Direction we come a deadly wave of Infections slowly progresses steadily so far so Far "FTL" in Zombie. "We," by the way, are a Group of Survivors whose Compilation we can determine or have cured out for ourselves at the Beginning. Each Character has certain Strengths, can handle weapons particularly well, for example, or heal well. Through Experience, we can level up the Characters and also assign them certain Bonuses. Even those Who hold which weapon in Their hands are important for Success. In order to even uncover the next Card Points, we have to send one of the Cronies to the Solder. In text Displays, we learn about the Success or Failure of the Mission. Time costs the Loose-sending in any Case and Time consumes Food, one of the Resources. Then there are Medipacks, Ammunition and Material. With the latter, we can build Things like Barricades or Stick Traps. Let's Fight zombies, the Game switches to a live mode in which we first place the built Barricades and Traps. Then comes the Zombie Wave and we can move our Characters tactically, give healing or Attack Commands. The Idea and Structure of the Game are really good, there is a problem with the Execution and there, even if you realize that the Project is an ambitious one. The Operation is a bit cumbersome, the individual Elements unfortunately not too complex and the Real-time Fights show the disturbing Side of our Gang. The Graphics don't really skin off the Stool, the Sounds don't exactly seem intoxicating either. Still, for all the Criticiss-worthy, the Game is a typical indie product with Nooks and Crannies, but ambitious, made with Love, thoroughly thought out, in some Places sympathetically detail-loving and in many Places properly entertaining. Rating: 7/10 Atmosphere 5/10 Story 6/10 Graphic 6/10 Sound 6/10 Game Mechanics 6/10 Balancing 6/10 Game Pass Conclusion: Ambitious Zombie FTL-like with some Weaknesses. 6/10 Overall Rating
