About

Ghosthunter is a 2003 third-person shooter action video game for the PlayStation 2. Developed by SCE Cambridge Studio, it was published in Europe by SCEE in December 2003, in North America by Namco in August 2004, and in Japan by Electronic Arts in September 2004. The game is based primarily around ghost hunting, and tells the story of Lazarus Jones, a rookie detective with the Detroit Police Department, who accidentally releases a group of imprisoned ghosts from their confinement. When one of the ghosts kidnaps his partner, Jones must enter the ghost realm to track her down. The game received mixed reviews upon release, with critics praising its graphics but criticizing its brevity and linearity.

Ghosthunter (itch) reviews and comments

I played this on PS5 as part of the classics selection on PSN. This was a game I always saw at the used game store when I was younger. Overall this game is fine, I think the gameplay holds up for the most part. What I noticed most was the complete lack of direction. This is common in a lot of older games but here specifically there was little info to go back to that would give you a good heading to follow. Thankfully being over 20 yrs old there are a few guides to follow. There is a particular mine cart puzzle near the end that was so obtuse and unnecessary that the guide had to make special mention of it. The spectral powers are so location specific that I wonder why they even added them, as you will literally use a few a single time. I didn't hate this game but it didn't do much for me either.
