Giana Sisters 2D
About
"The Great Giana Sisters" was one of the first platformers to be released on the Commodore 64. Although sales were stopped soon after the game’s release, The Great Giana Sisters became a cult classic, and Giana an iconic part of video game history.
In 2009, we started a reboot of Giana Sisters and released it on Nintendo DS. Giana Sisters DS marked the beginning of a new series of Giana Sisters games, with Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams and Giana Sisters: Dream Runners being the latest releases.
Now we’re happy to give you a HD remake of the 2009 Nintendo DS version on Steam. It features beautiful HD graphics and full controller support. And of course the precise controls, intuitive handling and a smooth learning curve that platform fans expect. All balanced for hours of fun and challenges. It also contains the 32 levels of the original game – restored with love and care to resemble our take on the retro aesthetic.
Freed from the dust of decades, Giana Sisters 2D retains its cherished style, familiar features and the legendary original soundtrack in a fresh revision.

Children of the 80s (which I also find despite the year 1979) who came into Contact with the famous "Bread Box"-the beloved cooking name for the Commodore 64-know immediately modestly when the Name "Giana Sisters" Comes: This Title stands for a correct Old but also really good Platformer classics after old School with earworm music. One of the most famous/popular Games on this Platform, by game developer Pope Manfred Trenz.
After over 20 Years-so around 2009-you ported this old game hit for the Nintendo DS to create a bit more Competition alongside genre kings like "Super Mario" and "Sonic the Hedgehog." Visually clearly polished up, acoustically nicely spiced up (including better and more diverse soundscape) and slightly changed in game Mechanics, it exudes almost the same Charm as the C64 original. A pretty and fluid animated Character, colorful Levels with beautiful Backgrounds, plus the well-known Soundtrack from the pen of cult musician Chris Hülsbeck (also responsible for the Music of "Turrican" or "Katakis") and a wanted Old fashion-simple control, not overloaded with extra features, is what make this child-friendly Game stand out.
And now, Just a few Days ago, Steam secretly released a PC port to that very NDS original. Graphically as acoustically almost 1:1 taken over, only here and there slight Changes in the Pia animations-why ever. Even on the big daddle TFT the Bouncy fun looks crisp and squeaky colorful, only you have to get used to the quite big Game Characters at first.
The total of 80 Levels, spread over 8 Worlds (plus once again the 32 Levels of the original game, which are directly available in the Option Menu above the "retro mode" at the start) offer uncomplicated and very entertaining Game Fun. But one should not be fooled by the initially lavishly seeming range of games, because most Levels are quite short and without any serious Difficulties to master. With the Difficulty and the too simple Game Setup, the Developers meant it too well, here the player could have been expected to face one or the Other Challenge. However, given that this Game was designed specifically for younger Players, you can look past it.
What is incomprehensible, however, is why one has pulled the Red Pen and removed many old Abilities of the Giana sisters (including the Alarm clock to stop time or The Bomb to Turn off All Enemies on the Screen). To Compensate, two new Items have been installed: The soda bottle for clearing away of Destructible blocks and Chewing Gum, with which Giana can form a huge Bubble And fly in it.
Verdict: Nice Reissue of a C64 hit, with ample retro feel. "Giana Sisters 2D" is a welcome Change from the annual standard-monthly brands from Nintendo and Sega. Less intended for genre professionals, more so for the very young Players, Nostalgics and Lovers of beautiful classic remakes.
P.S. If anyone wonders where I know all this, even though I haven't played this fresh HD port yet: I own the NDS version and habs have played through several Times. The direct Comparison was not a big Deal at the end of the day. ;)
