Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary reviews and comments

"More time capsule than game, stirring sentimental wonderment and bad memories in equal measure." - PCGamesN

Completed on Nov 23, 2020. I can understand how people felt when this game was first released in 2001, but this game is "overrated". It might have been incredible when it released but by today's standards the game is really mediocre. The visuals are fine, the music is decent, the voice acting is mediocre, and the level design is painfully boring. You walk through countless hallways (many of which are copy and pasted) except the gameplay does have the satisfaction of recent first-person shooters. I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone unless you feel the need to 'catch-up' with all the Halo games.

I know some people don't like the remaster... I can see why, but I for one think the upgrade is an improvement. Either way, this is a classic game with a beautiful makeover. Must play!

«Can’t stop playing»
Finished my first play through in 2020 and I must say, while I can appreciate and see why it was revolutionary at the time of release, this shit does not hold up in 2020. every level is the same 3 corridors over and over and over and over. I wouldn’t be so hard on the game if I weren’t also playing ocarina of time at the same time, which absolutely does hold up in every way this game doesn’t. excited for halo 2!

Levels with repeating design, some of which you have to play twice during the campaign. Looks dated, but still fun to play, especially co-operatively.
