About

Shadows over Riva (1997) is the third part of the glorious Realms of Arkania Trilogy...

Something sinister lurks in the seaside town of Riva. An evil force has subverted the city's leaders, and evil things lurk in the town's sewers. Explore the huge city, dungeons and even underwater regions in stunningly detailed 3D. Adjustable difficulty levels make the game as simple or as detailed as you like.

  • PC Gamer Editor's Choice (1997)
  • Fantastic story and excellent gameplay (Online Gaming Review, 1997)
The Realms of Arkania TrilogyThe Realms of Arkania games (Blade of Destiny, Star Trail and Shadows of Riva) deliver a prime example of the classical European fantasy universe. Based on Germany's most popular pen & paper role playing game, it was also the first German computer RPG series to get widely recognized outside of its home country. To this day it holds a stable hardcore fanbase that loves the games for their comprehensive adaption of the pen & paper ruleset and the believable medieval fantasy setting.

Back then, I'd played through the Game 2x or even 3x. If you get into it not to be taken at the hands of the new Games as in the new games and also not to be rushed through, but to dive off and enjoy, explore and enjoy, you will feel wonderfully entertained. The Atmosphere is excellent from good to partly and gives you the Feeling that you are not in the far safer city, but in the Dungeon somewhere set on you and nu experience your Adventure usually with the necessary Kick at the End. I always liked that at the time about the Games. I found the first Parts quite OK, but I had a lot more Joy with the Basic Mood in DSA3. I can definitely recommend it, but not without saying clearly as well. If you find today's games difficult and langam without constantly having the pure Action no longer have the Patience to do so, you might want to watch a few Videos about them on a well-known Stream in Net. Which is the Advantage again today. At that time, I had no Internet and could only help myself by figuring it all out myself;) But That was also the nice thing about it. The Difficulty and the dished Out game Design generated the Bond and gave you something back. Regards

A true Legend among the Games! Shadows over Riva represent the successful Conclusion of North Inland Triology. Here you control An Adventure Group, which has to unravel the Mystery of the Coastal City of Riva and the Boat Stalls. You can decide whether to start with the prefabricated Adventure Group or to assemble a Group yourself. If you choose the latter Option, you will quickly determine the Complexity and Depth of the Game in Expert Mode. So it can easily take 1-2 Hours for your own Group to be created. Shadow over Riva is not a modern action fantasy RPG, as it is produced on the Assembly line these days, but a classic adventure game. Preparations must be made, such as Food and Drink, Warm Clothes and blankets, Medicinal herbs, Torches or Lanterns, empty Books and, of course, various Tools and Aids. Time also plays a big role here. There is Day and Night. The Shops, Taverns and so on have fixed Opening Hours. If you Go to The Healer at night because a Hero is poisoned, the Treatment costs twice! There are Holidays. Broken Weapons are not instantly repaired by the Blacksmith, but can be picked up Again hours or Days later. Sometimes a certain amount of Time has to pass before the Main Task continues. The Game offers a good Balance between Fighting, Puzzling and History. Linguistically, Shade over Riva is very medieval. Finally, I would also like to draw attention to the magical Objects. They are not Mass-produced goods that can be found or bought at any Corner. They are rare Objects that are carefully distributed across the Game world and which are often obtained only by solving Puzzles and/or dangerous Fights. But at all's points you need a good Eye to even discover if it's a magical Object. It does not always immediately stand out that it is a magical Object. Look Forward to an epic Adventure with a very creative History and some very imaginative Areas. The only Negative is probably the Fact that since then there has been virtually no comparable Game, which simulates such a real Adventure;(
