About

The Oil Blue is an indie action-sim that has you drilling for oil in the world’s oceans, selling barrels of oil on the market, and exploring new islands once you completed objectives set by your employer, the United Oil of Oceania company. Set in the oceans in the future, the world’s dependency on oil has grown to an even larger amount. It’s up to you and a crew of men to travel the ocean, find abandoned oil drilling islands, and reclaim them for the United Oil of Oceana company.

Once you land on an island, you have a set amount of days and oil barrels to make during your stay. Fire up those old drilling machines and start making oil underwater, watch the oil barrel market and sell at the highest price, repair machines and do it all within the time you’re given, or the UOO will boot you off the island for a better crew. Sell more barrels to achieve higher ranks and perks, upgrade your machines, and conquer the ocean!

The Oil Blue was released in 2010 to enthusiastic reviews and acclaim, including being a part of the "250 Indie Games You Must Play" book by Mike Rose. This Steam release contains all new extras, including:

  • Original Windows release of the Oil Blue, patched to 1.041. This patch was never officially released until now, which contains fixes that help improve gameplay input.
  • Steam Trading Card support, with all new HD art by Camille Kuo.
  • Steam Achievements, unlocked using the included Oil Blue Achievement Unlocker/Helper App. Simply boot up this program and it will scan your save files for achievement unlocks, including old game saves you can transfer from previous releases!
  • Includes the original game's soundtrack in MP3 and FLAC file formats by Jonathan Geer.

Note: This is a legacy release. The game's original source code was corrupted years back, to where I can no longer patch the game. However this game release contains all of the patches made up to this point, which fixed numerous bugs, added new features, etc. This game was tested on Windows XP, 7, 8.1 and 10, and while it works great on the machines we tested it on, there is a possibility of it not running correctly on your machine. Please view the official troubleshooting guide before purchasing for more information. Thank you!

The Oil Blue: Steam Legacy Edition reviews and comments

Nothing for Casual Players! The Game offers great Elements reminiscent of the Uralt Game Oil Empire, but the big Flaw of the Game is: It's too hard for casual players! At Its core, you switch back and forth between two Screens and you have to Micromanage On each Screen. In Between, however, you still have to complete Minigames such as "Mastermind" or hold a Laser Point with the Cursor button in a moving Circle that are simply annoying and buckchwer. Then you lose sight of the two Screens again with the next Calamity: An annoying Mini-name again! Apparently, the whole time a tablet game or as such was designed, because the whole Control is designed for "Touch" (E.g. with the annoying Minigame, in which you have to keep a Laser pointer in a moving Circle, with Cursor keys virtually impossible!) And there is no Full-screen mode. The degree of Difficulty is compounded: After three Days of action 15 barrels are delivered, you can only do so if the three Days are error-free-and that does not work out. Here are a few more Plus and Minus: + The Game doesn't cost much + the Tutorial is well done and explains everything + management windows are well thought out and fun + good Ideas for Time Management and Economic Simulation-too hectic (I don't realize anywhere how much Time left for The current Round remains)-too heavy-annoying Minigames-runs only in Window mode, but not Full screen-only in English (Explanations are sufficient but what are Stress Gauge, Drill Rigs, Oil Derricks?)

I like to play to let off Frustration, relax or just to get an interesting Story "told" in the Form of an Adventure by the Main Character I manage. Here I thought "oh fine, a little nice Daddle Game in the Art Oil Empire ..." Nope... Full next to it. This is the Upper Hammer of Fruit Tanners and Stressers. Click around on a Winz window (640x480??) in a wide variety of Tabs (which are still the least possible to react Mightily) and regulate everything at the same time at The Same time at the Half-second Interval-At the Drilling Tower, direct the Drill head and use the Pumps at the right Moment If you start, Release pressure regularly-In the Case of underwater Pumps, make sure that they always have enough Juice on the Batteries-In the Case of the land Pumps, either press left or right on the corresponding buttons for Eye Suction-and in fact there is still a Window that Reminiscent of Oil Empire: Drill Head set the Direction and do not touch the Edge of the Screen and release Pressure regularly. That doesn't sound so much demanding at first ... However, this must be done partly in the aforementioned half-second interval and then on the individual Tabs (here the Mirror strokes) separately ... Parallel... Without a break. So if I had a Job that's grott-boring, then that might bring some "Action" here, but so it's just an Imposition! Where is the strategy Share? Nowhere Exists .. Only the Oil storage Forces you to press oil on the Market in addition, so that you have Space again. It should be said that (only after Installation, when the first Tutorial is on!) a Working day (was actually there 5 Hours?!?) is simulated in about 1.5 Minutes per Hour = A Round equals about 7.5 minutes plus the "Zero Hour," in which fix is still done in Advance by Minigames The Equipment can be repaired. These Minigames are nice, but if I want to play Senso (TM), then I play that. There are other Ways than to come up with such a Crap As a Minigame just to fix a luscest Pumping station! Conclusion: Grits, Hustle and Bustle without Meaning, frustration, Progress goes with the next Island fluttering again and starts (almost) from the front ... No... No no no... For 4,-€ ok, but otherwise, just Nö!
