About

TRAUMA is a point-and-click adventure indie game developed by Krystian Majewski. The game was developed as a part of a thesis project and explores human experiences during being unconscious.

Plot

The game tells a story of a woman, who survived a car accident, yet slipped into a coma. You go through several memories of hers and reveal her backstory.

Gameplay

The game focuses on two mechanics in its gameplay: the usage of gesture-like mouse movements and a typical point-and-click experience. These mechanics are used by the player to move around the world of the game, which consists of several dreamscapes. Gestures are used in several specific moments and mimic the real world actions. These gestures can sometimes be used for traversing the world.

Each dreamscape is represented using real photos, but with several artificial elements added to them. The primary objective of such dreamscapes differs and is told to the players after selecting one of the dreamscapes. During the game, a narrating voice can reveal plot details or hints. The players have to find nine Polaroid photos in each area.

The players are to traverse all the dreamscapes and get every possible ending in the game. After revealing every ending for a specific dreamscape, the player is awarded a photo tracker, which makes finding the polaroids much easier.

TRAUMA reviews and comments

Trauma offers an astonishing amount of Play for a Mini-price. In four different Dream Sequences (which consist of Photographs, within which one can perform various Actions and thus "move" in the World), the Player Explores the Subconscious of a Seriously injured person in the Hospital. What sets the Game apart is the actually trance-like, surreal Vibe that captures the Feeling of being surprisingly good in a Dream. A Mini-name you can play well when it's Night, raining outside and you actually wanted to go to Bed-and that's meant to be absolutely positive. Plus, it really motivates you to really figure out all the Secrets and different Endings for all Dreams. But You have to have a Soft Spot for the Metaphorical and Surreal, otherwise you have little Fun here.

The indie game "Trauma," developed by Polish Developer Krystian Majewski, has already won Series awards and is already regarded as a Signpost for upcoming graphic adventures. Dubbed "interactive fiction," this Game is reminiscent of a good Mix between Point-and-Click adventure And Gesture-game. With the Mouse, the Player searches the Screen for Photos, all of which Bring back their Memories together to the Protagonist. This awoke from a coma only recently after a Car accident. The oppressive Atmosphere of the dark Villages, which are staged only by Light Effects, makes the Game a Highlight. A coherent Music and above all a weighty Story, which often leaves you exposed to the Atmosphere alone, makes "Trauma" the magnet of Bad feelings, Oppression and a Fascination with the Topic of "Near-death." It would be strange to recommend such a Game, but you shouldn't miss it! You can see the Developer's Efforts on the carefully prepared Graphic. A Tip for People who aren't Afraid of Trauma, want to deal with Issues such as Near-death Experiences and Loss Of memory, and prefer a quiet Game.

I must admit, it's played and watched within 20 minutes, but the quality of the art and creativity is very, very good. A candy of short video, photography and storytelling. Please makers, make more of this and if you can, make it a bit bigger.

But too short, too short, too short. The idea is great, playing is fun. Only one gets on it too fast, how to do it. And then all the riddles are solved quickly. But the four hours I had really fun. And where can you already have a route to the game show.

Too bad. With German voice output, the game experience would be much better. But there are German subtitles. The price is ... well it should not have been cheaper but may double or include more scenes. And collected photos should always be able to display in large. The game or the interactive story is still something new to the other pabulum.
