When Christian Whitehead wanted to do more than bring a classic Sonic franchise to the modern age of gaming, he developed the Retro engine. While the gameplay and aesthetics are the same, the experience is brought into a widescreen format, stereo sound, and many features related to future Sonic game releases and time trials. The experience would be brought on Android and iOS only.
I'm happy to see the experience is all the same, yet somehow changed to cater to the now and later. It's too bad the remaster didn't make it on many of the other platforms, though.
