Vampire Survivors review

8.5 / 10
Way more fun than it has a right to be. I only played for around 30 hours though so not one of those games that really hooked me. I enjoyed it enough to check out other games that were inspired by it, so that should tell you something.

This game has a lot of depth for being so simple. Finding all the secrets and unlocking the dozens of characters is very enjoyable. This was pretty much the only game I could play after having surgery and it was a blast to platinum.

brain meltingly good at exactly what it wants to be, doesn't try to do anything it isn't

not many games I forgive for not being the right aspect ratio, this is one of the few

Very high quality game, the creator of a new genre. Worth attention. Necessarily get 100% in this game.
Vampire Survivors from its appearance doesn't look like anything special, just another cheap looking indie game in the sea of garbage. However, Vampire Survivors is fun, really fun; it's just one big dopamine factory. All you do is walk around as your survivor automatically attacks the hordes of mindless enemies that mostly beeline towards you. It doesn't sound like anything special but it is oddly addictive. Mowing down the horde and collecting experience gems is satisfying, leveling up and getting new items is satisfying, and opening a chest and getting more than one item is SATISFYING. This whole game can just be described as Satisfying. However, saying that walking around auto-attacking is the only thing to Vampire Survivors isn't entirely correct. You can find secrets, unlock new survivors and items, and upgrade yourself for future runs. There is always something to work for. Vampire Survivors is an excellent product, especially when considering it only retails for three dollars (USD). I recommend giving the game a shot since you won't lose much if you end up not liking.

Great game, but gets a bit boring when you get an OP build. Runs shouldn't last this long after you've maxed out everything. Perhaps 20 minutes total instead of 30.
Top-down survivor (hah) type shooter with tons of maps, monster and unlocks.

I can see why it's popular.

Having played 20 Minutes til Dawn previously, I find it interesting that Vampire Survivor inspired so many games, that replicated the formula of the game so much better than it did itself.

For the fourth time coming back to change status to playing. I guess I'll never stop while they keep adding achievements
It’s not bad. There’s something fun about it’s simplistic gameplay. I don’t think I’ll play it too long though.

I have played it for like 5 or 6 hours (very spread out). It’s better than I thought it would be. I still doubt I play much more but I don’t regret my time playing it.

There more to this one I thought there would be. I’m actually starting to come up with builds that I like.

For a cheap 5$ game this surpassed my expectations. It had a surprisingly fun gameplay loop.

I put vampire survivors down when I was okay on the laptop but after hearing so much lore buzz about this game, and getting a steam deck, I decided to give it another go and it’s a lot more fun on the steam deck. Plus they have made a few updates so now it shows you more info about getting relics and the overall progression is clearer.

Okay I’ve been playing more on steamdeck and Im liking it more and more. I’m getting a better understanding on why I’m hearing so much about this little game. There are a few reasons why I’m liking it more. First, it’s so much better on the steamdeck than laptop. Way better. Second, I’ve made more progress on unlocks and I now I have a clear direction on what to work towards rather than the initial “just survive” goal. I’ve been unlocking more weapons, weapon evolutions, characters and the passive abilities that have made the game more fun. Now when I finish a run I’m excited to see what new things I’ve unlocked and what I can unlock next. It’s still no Brotato, I don’t think it will reach that high, but it’s climbing.

Okay now I’m good. I unlocked most of the weapon combos and won with a decent number of characters on most of the levels. I beat that final boss once so that feels like a good place to call it. It’s starting to feel repetitive. Fun game though.

Final Score: B
