Good game that is unknown due to its less than stellar marketing.
I remembering really liking this game's story when I played it on console. It's dark. It's depressing. It fucks you up in a good way. However, I understand a lot of people aren't into that sort of stuff, and the art style/marketing for this game makes it seem it will be a cute, lighthearted platformer with an interesting story, but not one that's too dark. When you actually play it it meshes fairly well imo. It's like a visual novel.
But the previews of the game make it very unclear what type of vibe this game is trying to for, and how it will handle its story. Because of this, I think a lot of people got turned off from it (thinking it's just a cutesy simple platformer), or started playing it and were let down. If the game's marketing was more honest, maybe have some sort of graphical editing (like longer/more animated trailers) to show the tone of this game better, I think Iconoclasts would have quickly become an indie cult classic.
Story the side, the gameplay is fun and well-rounded. Everything is polished, including the UI. I will say tweaks don't feel like they do much, and that some boss fights feel a bit boring. But there's a lot of them, and they're not super easy, so I found the overall gameplay to be very satisfying.

Between the gargantuan great animations, the scenario has turned you face and the different system of combat and interaction, this game was a hell of a favorite. We feel the pasta métroidvania of the beginning and honestly, we want to master each facet of the character to make perfect to the bosses even if it serves nothing. The gameplay is really impec and this throughout the adventure or backtracking. At the graphical level, as said before, Konjak tore it all up, all the animations have had a crazy care and work super well with this graphic universe or the pixel art is just sublime. I do not think to be objective, but for this games, will be what in my esteem, one Pat on a solid 18/20.

Really not convinced.
Iconoclasts is a friendly game with qualities, unfortunately the flaws are also numerous.
The positive side, the beautiful colorful graphics, the ambiance, the music rather well made (sounds a bit more irritating) and a pleasant gameplay.
On the other hand I am at 6 hours of play and I am already bored: the story is quite banal and confused, the characters bland despite a design that might suggest the opposite, and especially I find the puzzles too many, repetitive and unintuitive (one wonders regularly what we are supposed to do).
The combat part lacks intensity, the enemies are mostly uninteresting, except the bosses (whose difficulty seems random).
Moreover the translation is odd (unless it is the original text...)
I was going to persist a little, but after one last attempt I find it so boring that I will not finish it.
Result, I can not recommend it despite its attractive sides.

Come on.
Could not put a positive assessment on this game that clearly deserves more visibility.
What are his qualities?
-A really cool and relatively casual platform game (I mean a correct fix, and regular backup points that allow you to do sessions of 30 min max).
-A stylish heroine!
-A crazy pixel art (made by a single person!!)-bosses fights all different with big winks to licenses of our childhood-a really nice story to follow with endeant characters (and a translation into French well done despite some typos)-a correct lifespan (a dozen hours)-game mechanics that change a bit (via the use of a wrench!)-the ability to collect the 100% without having to start the game-and especially we feel that it was done with a gross e dose of love.
It's been several years that I watched him, the project was almost cancelled many times... but it is finally there!! and it was worth it! Bravo Konjak (the developer), low hat and long life to iconoclast which has its place in me in the Pantheon of the undivided platformers (cave story, Iji, braid, limbo; to name just them...).
100% convinced, I warmly recommend < 3
