INSIDE review
by Arta

I've been playing video games since the early/mid-2000s, and I am ashamed to say that I don't recall ever finished a 2D platformer, probably mostly due to childish ideas that they just aren't as "good or "worthwhile" as triple-A games. And when I finally did properly finish one such game, it turned out to be one of the best video games I've ever played, period. Inside takes the best aspects of 3 undisputed gaming masterpieces, and brilliantly makes them its own, expands on them and in some aspects even transcends the games! From Half-Life 2, it partly takes the futuristic setting run by a fascist government/organization, as well as, and more importantly, the physics-based gameplay, and no less significantly, telling the story and propelling the narrative without resort to cutscenes, hints or words, rather doing so much more subtly through the visual, sound and level design. It takes from Portal 2, the environment: "the inside," the constant test tube structure, which bleeds into the gameplay as well as the level designs, and even to the story, demonstrated best by and the ultimate goal of breaking out. And finally, from Bioshock, it inherits the ever disquieting atmosphere achieved through masterful visual and aural design, and even more notably, the "meta-ness" of the game, materialized (as in that game) in the theme of control, which only really becomes evident towards the end of the game, and even then just for the observant players. The alternate ending, in a way gives this an edge over even Bioshock, in how much it pushes this idea, and in that it proposes a “solution,” to the “recurring problem” that the proper ending of the game turns out to really be: the only way to beat the test is to refuse to play in the first place.
To appreciate the full merits of the game, is to also go in depth about the groundbreaking use of the fine line that the game walks between 2 and 3 dimensions, the subtle camera moves, the astonishing graphic design etc.

In Short:
The one aspect this game is absolutely exceptional at is "atmosphere". If you're looking for anything deeper in terms of story or game-mechanics then you could pass on this one. If not, sit down for a couple hours & treat your eyes & ears with something special.

In Long:
To list the good first, the game is absolutely gorgeous. The world is dark & oppressive, the use of colour & framing is perfect and the sound-design is rounding everything of into a great experience.
And all of this is with a careful use of minimalism to only use just enough colour, just enough sound and overall just enough information to make your mind fill in the rest. It leaves you on edge at all times, eager to know what will come next.
And without spoiling anything, it pays off on that front.

Unfortunately minimalism is also the games issue.
Personally I went into the game with some expectations based on their previous game called "Limbo". Because of that I ended up pretty disappointed in the puzzles & story of the game.
The gameplay consists mostly just of "move right/left", "stop running" & "jump" ... and a lot of dying.
The game relishes in brutally killing your little avatar character and quickly sending you back to the last conveniently placed checkpoint.
Because of this the shock aspect quickly fades into nothingness and instead just becomes a constant struggle of trial & error.
The occasional puzzles also never really evolve into anything really challenging and only rarely introduce anything new at all.
The game also only really gives the illusion of a story & lore without actually giving you anything.
If you are into that sort of thing (like the cryptic story telling approach of Dark Souls) then you'll probably love this one too but, just like with a lot of things, this game expects you to fill in the blanks with your own imagination.
And to be fair, this is what had me hooked for the majority of the game.

Overall the gameplay & story aren't bad ... they are serviceable. Compared to that the good outshines all else tenfold and are definitely worth your money and time!

Got this as part of Xbox's "Games with Gold".   I have LIMBO so I had an idea of the gameplay style but this was INFINITELY more creepy to me. The faceless men chasing the little guy.  The attack dogs. And the worst part - the long-haired underwater creature. I did well finding the hidden orbs at the start but quickly got caught up in just getting through the puzzles and forgot to search for them, which is what all the achievements are attached to! BUT it appears that once you finish the game, you can easily go back to any point in time so I plan on picking it up again and finding the orbs.

If you want a puzzle game that will keep you busy for a few hours and also give you goosebumps, INSIDE is a solid pick.
A minimalist dark side-scroller with constant atmospheric flow uninterrupted by annoying confusing story,
and packed with smart but beatable puzzles. Fine European art!

First of all, play it on an iPhone X and it's super and very fluid. The game: it can be quite nerve-wracking (which is not negative, rather the opposite, in such a kind of game), it remains throughout exciting and has only short relaxed breaks, which one also needs ... Whether the 7.99 are eligible for the full version, you have to decide for yourself, I think it's worth it, because you can not play it just just times, but sometimes really must think and through the stress you, in my opinion , in between really can get real, you can divide the game well on a few days (too long but you probably will not wait because it is designed really exciting and you want to know how to continue) and starting from your own Playing time at the play, one has either only one day something from the play or just longer.

Sin! It could have been a masterpiece and not at all! At the beginning of the night (in fact it convinces you to buy it) but soon after you realize you were wrong to do it ... In 3 hours we finish the game (x 8 euros I expected to spend at least a few days ... I didn't ask for much !!) the final phase of the game practically devoid of puzzle ... just go back and forth ... Not to mention the end of the game ... it just doesn't make sense ... you can't really define a conclusion ... For charity ... beautiful graphics ... beautiful idea ... BUT THIS IS NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE IT A WORTHY NAME ... and above all ... an 8 euro game !! Spend them for a pizza that you spend at least the evening;) Ps maybe update it by adding a new level ... something that can give an end to the game ... at least those like me who spent this money can say they just threw them in half! REALLY SIN

First of all, everyone should get the free experience with the game! After that and I promise you, you want - no - MSST you get the full version for 7.99! Judging by Spielspa, the terrible experience, the great sounds of the respective game sections and situations and the tension, I feel the price fair. You get a trip into the unknown, have to find out how to get ahead and master some nerve-wracking challenges - without having to think long and hard. Both on the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV a pleasure. Game levels are automatically stored crossover, so that you can continue to play on any device where you left off or something rewind or start over - just as you want - great. You can play the game with a Mfi controller even better (I use the Steel Series Nimbus), but of course it is also quite normal by touch or the remote for Apple TV (4K). I do not regret my purchase of the game in any way. PS: Just a little hint - play it with headphones and turns on full, so you can dive much deeper into the action and the partly gloomy mood - sometimes with goosebumps :)
Started like a decent stylish platformer, blew my mind in the end

The whole atmosphere of this game is awesome. Its very simple yet adds new mechanics every now and than. I did not want it to end, yet its not too short I think. Better leave the gamer wanting more I guess, than getting bored. I didn't get bored for sure.
The story in this game is one huge disappointment. It develops quite normal but the ending is awful. The game leaves you with questions and suggestions but doesn’t explain anything and you sit and stare at the credits and think “WTF, really?” Here is a secret ending and the story is the opposite: it’s spoiled in the middle of the game and there’s no matter to reveal it separately. The game thinks it’s smart but it’s frustrating. I feel really devastated because I’m sure they could do a much better ending here.
I can spend days in this game and it’s never annoying or boring. The gameplay is challenging but simple, level design is great, the visuals and sounds deserve a special compliment. Everything is done perfectly here, and I highly recommend this game.
Story was stunning! Design is so beautiful 😍
